I bought 6 CD's of his a few months ago, loved 'em (hadn't ever heard 90% of 'em). Then, of course, kind of got tired of him.
But now I'm totally into him again! It's part of my "let myself be silly" relaxing technique. I'd highly recommend the "let yourself be silly" technique as a stress preventer. You just do it by giving yourself some forgiveness, and giving yourself some slack, society's opinions be damned. But you might be surprised how hard it is to stop being as hard on yourself as you normally are. I learned I was regularly putting myself through a whole false-guilt routine, without even having a clue I was doing that! It took weeks to learn how to be okay with relaxing the most self-injurious psychological funks I got into regularly. But I'm there now, and it's awesome. 8)

Once I taught myself how to let up on myself a bit, life started to seem more natural and bright.

Yeah. I'm a big Weird Al fan too, but I think it's a real shame that he's best remembered for his knock-off songs, when his own stuff that HE wrote is just as good anyway, and it's NOT a copy of someone else's work. Take for example, the following songs. . . . Virus Alert, Close but no Cigar, the theme from the movie UHF, Dare to be Stupid, Don't Download This Song, etc. Those are great songs, but all people want to remember is I'm Fat, Eat It, White & Nerdy, etc. which are just copies!

the movie is the greatest.

My favorite moment was when they turned the "supplies" closet into an engrish homonym for "Surprise".

Ha ha! I JUST NOW listened to all those, except Don't Download This Song! I like "Hardware Store" -- is that one original or a knock-off? What about "I think I'm a clone now"? I also like "She Never Told Me She Was a Mime": hehe, "She walks against the wind everywhere we go." funny imagery.

"It's Christmas At Ground Zero" should be in every radio station's Christmas song mix.

Ah Weird Al, Yes I'm a fan.

Own everything he has released. Some of the stuff from the 80's is a bit painful to go back too... but it's still good.

I have not felt that embarrassed or anything about enjoying weird al. He does quality work, and makes these parodies almost sound too easy.

I like his original's too. After the novelty of the parody fades, the originals seem to last longer. He's definitely improving and becoming more risky in his originals. Genius in France, Hardware Store, Virus Alert... etc.

I also like the song, Everything You Know is Wrong. As a TMBG fan, it almost seems like a long lost TMBG song... maybe... not quite as good... but I still like it.

I really like Virus Alert, it got me into the band Sparks... which has a discography I've only begun to dive into.

Also, UHF is one of my favorite films. Very funny... Weird Al should do more movies... too bad that movie bombed.

His newest, straight outta lynwood is a pretty good place to start. It's the most current in terms of the music on it, but it has a fair amount of rap/hip hop... if you are into that.

I also like Bad Hair Day, but it may not be for everyone.

Stick away from Polka Party, and maybe the UHF Soundtrack... some of the album's from the 80s... there are a few less than pristine albums.

Hans_Solo, here's the video of the first track from that album, "White & Nerdy".

I have a copy of The Authorized Al, Compleat(I'm serious, that is how it's spelled on the cover.)Al, UHF, many shirts, ALL his albums and that's it. I have been listening to Weird Al since 3 years ago and have never stopped listening to him.

I'm not sure of the veracity of the claim, but my ex-boyfriend, who was a huge TMBG fan, said that "Everything You Know Is Wrong" was a homage written to them, because Weird Al also likes TMBG.

Yeah it is, Weird Al does this a lot. Most of the non-parody songs are actually style parodies, he tries to write a new song in the band's style... because Al likes the group.

I like Weird Al too! I didn't like UHF at all, though.

I saw Weird Al in concert a few months ago.
That was fun!

I have been a fan since I was a kid....I have memorised most of the first few albums.

I think the time of year has come when we should listen to "The Night Santa Went Crazy"
