The reason I ask is because right now I'm listening to their latest CD, "Dark Passion Play," and it's quite good. I know a lot of people would rather have Tarja back, and I love her singing, but Anette's pretty good, too.

Plenty of NW fans here--threads come up about them all the time. I love them. I don't like Annette's voice at all so "Dark Passion Play" is a "man, it could have been SO much better" sort of thing for me. XD But it's okay...I wrote this whole review on it.

I only like one of their songs: "Amaranth". It really is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.

I am a Nightwish fan (as you can see by my avatar :) ), both with Tarja and with Annette. But to me, "Tarja" Nightwish and "Annette" Nightwish are two different bands (maybe that's the reason why I'm able to love both of them).

Shameless plug time!

Review of the new album here:

And while we're at it, Tarja's solo album after leaving the band:

I greatly prefer the Anette Nightwish over the Tarja Nightwish. I recently discovered Nightwish a month or so ago and have listened to Dark Passion Play over and over again. I've only listened to the older stuff once or twice.

I like Nightwish but I...(uh-oh, deep breath and get ready for the inevitable backlash)...prefer Within Temptation.

Nightwish, yay! Symphonic metal to sooth the beast in Lumina.

I discovered them a few months ago and fell in love instantly. Dark Passion Play is an excellent album in my opinion, I haven’t delved into their older albums yet to see if I prefer Anette over Tarja though. Right now I think they each have brought something positive to the music.

Tarja's had two solo albums. The other one was "Henkäys Ikuisuudesta," and the only half-decent song on that disasterpiece was a cover of "Ave Marie" that sounded just like the original. DX

WT is lovely. I'd have to say I prefer WT as well.

Well, either way, I was reviewing that album, not the previous ones, even if the word 'debut' was in there somewhere.

I'm huge admirer of Nightwish.

I always liked both Metal and Classic, and this seems to be nice fusion of both.

Thank goodness I'm not the only person who's aware of this! I've been practically flipping my lid over people who probably should know better banging on about My Winter Storm being Tarja's debut album!

Overreact much?

In my defense, I'm pretty sure that her own damn press release said it was her debut, too.

I like Nightwish a lot. And when it comes to that kind of music (metal with classical influences and a female singer) I also like Within Temptation and - especially - Lacuna Coil. And then there's that band Ueickap from Sicily (pronounce as "wake up"), which is imo also very good.

Yes.

I prefer Tarja, but Anette's okay too, I think... well, actually, I can't quite compare them since they are so different.

Hah, I wish My Winter Storm was her debut solo album...it's way better than Henkays.
