Imagine an all aspie band

Sometimes I imagine being in a band made up completely of people with AS or another ASD. Does anyone else ever think about this?
Would you want to be in an all aspie band?
Would you want to listen to an all aspie band?
Or go to their shows?
In what ways do you think an all aspie band would differ from a typical band?

I want to start an all-Aspie prog/melodic death/gothic metal band. I play bass and I'm planning on taking singing lessons.

We weren't an all aspie band....One drummer we had had borderline personality disorder....the other was a dyslexic alcoholic with narcissistic personality disorder....The singer/sax player/writer of many of the songs has a mixed bag including Bi-polar, Schitzotypal and many AS attributes..he eventually became too difficult to work with.....Then there was me and Flakey...Flakey was the only person in the band who could drive...

We were quite a spectacle......we were quite dysfunctional at times.....specializing in chain reaction meltdowns.

I never think about it because it doesn’t seem like an issue to me. If anything, I think aspie musicians would be able to get along well together, at least if they're adults.

Interestingly, I’ve overheard some speculation about the possibility of AS in one of the musicians that I play with regularly. He’s an older fellow, who’s very knowledgable. I think we probably get along together better than anyone else who plays with us. Even after everyone else has left, I’ll spend an hour jogging his brain about music.

Bands like "primus" and "they might be giants" for some reason seem very aspergian to me. So does "Laurie Anderson". Her music seems very aspergian. I listen to alot of modern jazz and due to its syncopation and atonality it seems aspergian to me. Jazz fusion bands like "weather report" or "chick corea" can also pass as pretty aspergian. It seems possible to me that chick corea may have aspergers. He is the best pianist of all time though.

I don't give a crap if the musicians I listen to have AS or not. If it's good music, it's good music. An all-AS band might be amazing or it might be utter shite. Who knows.

Well my bet is they'd be great! Cause being an aspie makes one great!

I don't think they'd play too loudly because some of them would have sensory defensiveness. XD Plus touring would be problematic because there'd be no routine (many aspies like routine) and because of things like food. The whole thing could be quite stressful for certain aspies, I think. On the other hand, the actual music itself MIGHT be quite good because of the obsessive dedication and skill that musically-inclined aspies could have.

i'd want to be in an aspie band i'd be in any band really (been trying to find a band for a year or more)

id listen to them as long as they where good but i dont go out much so no shows for me

they'd probably have either a completely unique sound or sound so exactly like the bands that they like but thats any band really

I've listened to a few peoples compositions from WP...and from what I can tell...they are some pretty unique sounds.
I think an all-aspie band though, would be completely dysfunctional to be honest. If they were to become famous...go on tour etc, there would be EXTREME lack of routine, fans to deal with, continuous change of environment etc. I haven't heard of a single person with AS say that they could deal with those conditions.

If they weren't famous though...they wouldn't have to deal with that...there for it could be successful.

Wow. I made this thread while on vacation and then forgot about it. I thought I had just had the idea but not made a thread about it, so I was about to start the thread when I found this! It's too bad I missed all these interesting responses!

I would like to try being in an aspie band. It's cool that it's been done, or sort of done. I imagined that might be the case, but I didn't know of any examples (except for Devo!).

I play guitar and bass. I sing and write songs. I live in CA. I'm into a lot of different kinds of music, and I've always wanted to try forming a band in which everyone has very different taste. That defies the conventional wisdom and would definitely be challenging, but I think it could result in a very original sound.

I'm bringing up the trans-genre band idea because to form an all-aspie band, you'd have to work with people with different taste. It would be hard enough to find aspie musicians who live within driving distance.

I don't think an all-aspie band would be better or worse than any other band, but it might be slightly different. The members of the band would probably be pretty different from one another. AS would be the main thing everyone had in common. I think that could lead to some interesting results, but it's hard to imagine exactly what.

It would be fun to come up with AS or ASD related band names too. Like The Autistics, Autistic Youth, Vipera Aspis, The Stims, The Little Professors, Code 299.80 or DX 299.80, The Autists, Autistry, Autistocracy, Hyperlexia, Hyperlexic, Synesthesia . . .

Does anyone have other ideas for ASD related band names?

I take it that you don't like these genres?
