The Savage Detectives by Bolano.

Really slow start. I loved 2666 and Amulet but this is... no wonder people are turned off by him so fast. I hope it gets better.

Catcher in the Rye is what I am currently reading.

Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult... again, due to school. I have been too tired and lazy these days to find anything I want to read for leisure.

I happen to be very interested in the Holocaust; can't wait to read Anne Frank for the 5th time.

Pattern Recognition by William Gibson

John Varley's Titan, Wizard and Demon, a well-respected but controversial sf trilogy. Highly sexual, though not in an erotic way. Good, but not up to the standards of his later books. I can see why a couple of parts attract controversy, though I thought they were well written. Couldn't tell whether the third book denouement of the motives of (left out for spoilers) was planned or not, but it felt badly done to me.

Now on The Technician, Neal Asher. I love his books, though for this one to make sense you'd need to have read most of the others.

I've been working my way through the entirety of Buffy, so that when I finish I can read Slayage ("the journal of Whedon Studies", I s**t ye not ) without having to stop each time I hit a spoiler.

I was on vacation last week so I had plenty of time to read. I finished the one about the women in Frank Lloyd Wright's life. I think the second wife might have had borderline personality disorder. Read a thriller by Lincoln Child and now I am reading Vikings Saxons and Celts by Bryan Sykes about the genetic origins of that part of the world. My sister's son had his mDNA sequenced so I know I'm Haplogroup H which means my "clan mother" "Helena" lived 20,000 years ago in Southern France. That means there's an unbroken line of females from that woman to my 3 year old grand niece Anna. I thought that was kind of cool to think about.

I've just started reading 'Sepulchre' by Kate Mosse, after reading 'Labyrinth' by her a good while ago.

Also reading Heart Of Darkness and 'This Is Your Brain On Music', a book about the psychology of music. It's good stuff so far.

Reading Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I thought I had sworn off the vampire/werewolf/supernatural genre after Stephanie Meyer, but trust me when I say Kenyon not only knows what she is writing about, she also knows how to write worth a damn.

So far it's about this kid Nick who lives in the poor district of New Orleans. He hangs out with a bunch of hoodlums, but one day they decide to rough up an elderly couple and he betrays his "friends" to save them. He's about to get shot by them when this one guy comes out of nowhere and beats the gangsters to within an inch of their lives, then takes Nick to the hospital, saying that he'll foot the medical bill if Nick comes to work for him. Then, during Nick's first day at school, there's an incident where one of his classmates tries to EAT the football captain. (Think zombies.) Also, apparently the one generous guy is also a vampire hunter.

That's as far as I've read. Great so far.
