Sharon den Adel
Reason: I frequently listen to Within Temptation, they are a good "symphonic rock" (their description not mine) band like that.

Björk
Reason: The first female singer I truly got into, in actuality, her music helped me somehow for a long time when I was in the thrall of the Dutch obsession. It helped me set myself apart from the rest of the crowds - in a good way, of course! 8)

Tarja Turunen
Reason: Fantastic singer, the song "Oasis" on her solo album brought me to tears the first time I heard it.

I like Tori Amos a lot, her talent is awe-inspiring. I really like Jenny Lewis, loved her stuff with the Postal Service. I also like Sarah Brightman a lot, not so much her poppier stuff, though. I also like Rainer Maria, and of course Tarja.

I was never able to get into Bjork. Just sounded like noise to me. Post is considered her best album, no? Cos that's the one I heard in its entirety.

Homogenic is the one you have to hear. Lots of moody strings and jittery hip-hop beats. The emotion in her voice is palpable. In my opinion her best album, beginning to end.

I'll give it a try. The songs on the Post album I liked were It's Oh So Quiet, Isobel, Hyper Ballard and The Modern Things.

I forgot to mention in my big post, Chan Marshall of Cat Power. She had a new album come out yesterday.

**Roya Arab**

Just bought the Archive Londonium cd and I really wish she was still making tunes; with these guys or whoever. Her stuff with Grooverider on Mysteries of Funk was seriously dope as well. I just wish there were more female singers with this kind of genius (Martina Topley-Bird as well).

Harriet Wheeler from the Sundays

Carol King

Sarah McLachlan

I used to love Tori Amos but she just became too much of a space cadet for me.

These are but a few.
