Boys Will Be Boys is my attempt at making sense of society's tendency to blame the victims of sexual assault and rape and make excuses for the perpetrators. It was also my way of dealing with certain events that were occurring in my life at the time. The video itself was intended to express the burden of victim blaming and sexual assault on the victims themselves as the mundane aspects of life go on. A song is just a song but at the very least I hope it will open up difficult yet important conversations between family members, friends, government bodies, organisations and most importantly, boys and men.
You know when you think about it? A rose is like a perfect symbol of a queen's authority. Sweet flower on top, sharp thorns on the stem beneath. The flower petals represent compassion and the thorns represents strength. Take away the petals and you have a tyranical queen, but take away the thorns and you have a weak queen. Both are needed to be a successful leader.
English Translation I found
Quote:
At the corner of this world The bell of war won't cease ringing; Its sound echoing all over the lands Drowning out the far away crying voices The "Blaze" that Father gave us The so-called "Happiness" that mother gave us
It was all but a lie What was actually behind the truth Was despair Oh bless me, with overflowing power! To this awakened impulse As I whispered such hope to myself On this thorny path I traverse without knowing How long does it continue? I began to search... For the "Queen's Rose"
A world without a single blooming flower As if painted in a gray-like color That time when my eyes were opened The colors were beautiful and fleeting The "Praise" which people offered up Were in reality unheard lamenations
Slashing away the silence That blade, how many times will it be swung down? It won't stop! Once upon a time, There existed the "Queen's Rose" That bloomed proudly in this world Oh bless me, with overflowing power! To this awakened impulse As I whispered such hope to myself On this thorny path that I finally understand At the end of it I've found it The "Queen's Rose"!
The world, it needs an anthem For all of womankind The song to fight, the song to right The wrongs of all of time So we put pen to paper And wrote all through the night A gorgeous ode to feminism Well within our sights
But this is pretty nuanced stuff And putting it all in one song was tough And that's why...
This is not a feminist song We tried real hard but it took too long This is not a feminist song Cause we were scared we would do it wrong We know women need an anthem A song to call their own But we didn't write that anthem We went home
Every woman has a struggle And every struggle's real But just try and write a song That captures every woman's deal So instead of writing lyrics Here's us running in the sand And here's a bunch of lens flares And an old woman's hands
Not to call a woman old Or judge a woman's hands We know a woman shouldn't be Reduced to just her hands
We stepped right into that trap It's so hard to navigate this crap And that's why...
This is not a feminist song So technically, it can't be wrong This is not a feminist song I feel like we've been singing so long Our ancestors, they fought for us So they deserve a song But this is not that song, so move along
Now here's some powerful footage For a song, we did not write It's Malala, Maya Angelou And Madeleine Albright
And RBG, she taught me that women can be strong And that women have the right to choose To bail on this whole song, oh, yeah
And that's why This is not a feminist song We're just women singing a song But doesn't that make it a feminist song? I guess this was feminist all along
This is a feminist song Tweet it, #FEMINISTSONG (hashtag "feminist song") Cause now it's time for you at home To weigh in on this song And tell us if we handled it all wrong

We're talkin' about abortion, it's against the law But we know that it's our right Control of our bodies we are going to will We've got to get together and fight
They tell us to get married and have three or four kids Change the diapers, be a good wife But we will decide how many children to bear We've got to control our own life
Free our sisters, abortion is our right Free our sisters, abortion is our right
We're talkin' about abortion it's as old as time Hidden in fear and pain The witches began it, they were burned at the stake For helping sisters break their chains
We're talkin' about abortion, gonna change the law And make a better way Those men with the power got to bend or break They've got some heavy dues to pay
For any other tarot lovers out there like me, here's some great meditation music on two major arcana cards that emote the most powerful "feminine" energy: The High Priestess & The Empresss.
^ Leveling the entire town doesn’t seem necessary. A couple houses should suffice. Seriously though, I hate being gawked at, especially when it’s accompanied by other behavior. It was worse when I was younger. Isolated events aren’t always a big deal, but when they happen often or when I’m having a bad PTSD day, it doesn’t feel so minor.
#MeToo songs seem like something important to post.
Here’s a couple songs written by survivors. I’m not posting the music videos because they contain triggering content although they are also important.
^ This song about secondary wounding (i.e. the dismissive, invalidating, hurtful comments people make to survivors) was written by Lady Gaga and Diane Warren who’s sitting next to Gaga in the video. Warren came out as autistic recently. She’s also a survivor.
