As for the Republicans—how can one regard seriously a frightened, greedy, nostalgic huddle of tradesmen and lucky idlers who shut their eyes to history and science, steel their emotions against decent human sympathy, cling to sordid and provincial ideals exalting sheer acquisitiveness and condoning artificial hardship for the non-materially-shrewd, dwell smugly and sentimentally in a distorted dream-cosmos of outmoded phrases and principles and attitudes based on the bygone agricultural-handicraft world, and revel in (consciously or unconsciously) mendacious assumptions (such as the notion that real liberty is synonymous with the single detail of unrestricted economic
license or that a rational planning of resource-distribution would contravene some vague and mystical ‘American heritage’…) utterly contrary to fact and without the slightest foundation in human experience? Intellectually, the Republican idea deserves the tolerance and respect one gives to the dead
.” - HP Lovecraft

I almost asked my wife for a tee shirt with that Lovecraft quote on it for Father's Day. Instead, I settled on a Cthulhu evolution shirt, as I was too afraid of pissing too many people off :lol: .

In honor of the man's birthday:

Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all.

(Frédéric Bastiat)

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. [St. Francis]

I swear that might be one of the most hyperbolic and solipsistic quotes I've ever read, and this is coming from a guy who has read Mein Kampf. I sure hope you enjoy your little slice of reality where people who disagree with you are demonized beyond recognition or regard towards sanity and reality. And let's not fail to observe that there is little difference logically between such demonizing platitudes and propaganda during WWII that reinforced killing "Zipperheads and Krauts".

You can quote that last paragraph if you like, folks.
