If you want to find Aspies in music, look at a lot of the great classical composers, for many reasons. They could write and work at their own time and in solitude, they were,in my opinion, more gifted and attentive to detail than modern musicians and had more passion for their music than their appearance, which is the opposite of a lot of the musicians nowadays.

Maurice Ravel jumps out as having hfa to me,and I am a big fan of his work. (as you can see from my avatar) He was introverted in himself, and obsessed with composing so much that he never had any kind of a real romantic relationship. Most of what I have read about him said that he loved only Paris, his mother and his music. The extreme attention to detail in his work (String Quartet In F Major and Tzigane are my favorites) and the repetitiveness is something that I think only an autistic genius could come up with.

I went to Ravel's house> it is maintained as a little museum, in France.
Also, Erik Satie may well have been. Seems highly likely to me.

And Tzingane is just a beautiful piece> what a composer Ravel was.

Two of the giants of bebop were probably aspies: Thelonius Monk, and Charlie Parker.

Monk almost certainly.

In 1947 Monk was playing at a club when some fellow musicians told him that "there's a cat gigging across the street who looks just like you!"

So he looked for himself. He told the lookalike pianist " Those cats are right- you do look like me..."

When he was reintroduced to the same man in 1952 the first words out of Monk's mouth were "...but you're uglier than I am."

He completed a senctence that he started five years earlier!

I'm not sure, but Thom Yorke of Radiohead always strikes me as someone who possibly has AS; after reading some of the stuff he puts on the Radiohead Blog, and listening to a lot of his lyrics, it does seem to be a possibility. If he's not an aspie, he's a very eccentric NT anyway. Judging purely on what little Talking Heads stuff I've heard, David Byrne seems to fit into the category too.
Check out Thom Yorke in his interviews too

After watching this interview with Maria McKee I wonder.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0AgtlGZ ... re=related

Watch her eyes, movements; and, listen to her speech patterns as the Norwegian presenter interviews her.

I always thought he looks slightly autistic in the way he moves his arms around and shakes his head spasmically as he sings. :) He doesn't seem to like small-talk either.

Kurt Cobain seemed to be a big fan of lists.

But we'll never know . . . . . . . . . . . . ......

Thought Craig Nicholls had ADHD, haven't read anywhere he has AS

Sure I've read Ladyhawke has a dx

other possibles:

Axl Rose; Lee Mavers; Kevin Shields can all be accused of seeking ridiculous levels of perfectionism which has severely got in the way of them actually doing anything for VERY long periods of time.

Syd Barrett and Nick Drake both seemed to want to retreat completely from the world, but this can just as easily be because of chronic depression than it could the possibility there were both autistic.

Just about any other slightly odd and eccentric rock star anyone can think of.

My nominees as per the lyrical content:
John Lennon (Great candidate - songs "Imagine" and "Working Class Hero")
Ozzy Osbourne - a lot of lyrics stating a feeling of difference
David Bowie - Specifically, the song called "Conversation Piece" which should be the Aspie theme song if there ever was one

I also nominate Goo Goo Dolls and Keane due to lyrical content

No way Lennon or Bowie - they were people persons and knew how to work a crowd

I'd have to go back a ways in the history of music to find some examples but here they are: Franz Schubert, Erik Satie, and a BIG maybe: Bill Evans the jazz pianist

In Jazz: Thelonius Monk almost certainly was an aspie. Probably Charlie Parker
as well.

In rock its tempting to lump every singer who sings about alienation under the
spectrum- but most arent.

But the odds are that a few rock stars really are aspies.

From seeing David Byrn in some film clip- im inclined to agree that he is one.

Lennon hated giving interviews though...

As for the post that mentioned Goo Goo Dolls... you're probably referring to John Rzeznik, to which I'll have to say "no way in hell". He's way too much of a people person and he just doesn't come off as "aspie" to me. I can say this, having seen them perform live before.

I'm not so sure but Rob Swire frontman for the drum n bass band "Pendulum" seems AS-ish. I watched a live DVD and he had no direct interaction with the audience. Also he seemed entirely focused on his instruments rather than the audience. I watched an interview with him and another band member and he didn't talk much and gave off a sort of awkward body language. AS may be a bit far but he's anti-social at least.

And Jack White may be. The Lyrics to the song "Do" are AS-ish. I don't know about Meg White though.
