the late Prince was massively talented but I just couldn't get into that type of music, in general.

Unpopular but ....

I just don't get / like / appreciate the Rolling Stones ! !!

Sure there's a couple of good songs around ... but they Do NOTHING for me at all .

I even tried to force myself to like them by downloading nearly 70 ( SEVENTY !) of their tracks and prayed them repeatedly . Nothing .

The Ramones were definitely not a "pop" group. They were more like a punk group with pop pretentions.

The definition of "pop" seems to be "having mass popular appeal". Obviously The Ramones have more mass appeal than say The Dicks or Black Flag or Minor Threat. Plus Blitzkreig Bop is a pretty good example of songwriting, that also happens to be "pop" in the way I've explained it.

IMHO, masses of young folk nowadays listening to pristine stereo tracks on mono sound systems, is backwards.

I don't listen to Burzum or anything that I know Varg Vikernes has touched though, because I don't want to support an outright fascist.

Same here for both.

Pantera is just too funky to disregard.

I wonder why their mono mixes are substantially longer than their stereo mixes?

I don't think Phil is a real racist. I think he's a hillbilly who gets drunk and likes to say and do f****d up stuff to outrage people. Listen to some of his early lyrics and he actually speaks against racism. It's just that he's also spoke out against "reverse racism" and that, in and of itself, gets labeled racist.

Now doing the hail hitler on stage, that's an easy way to confuse people, agreed.

I guess as someone who's been a metal fan with Christian leanings in the past, I'm used to listening to music that doesn't always jive with my life perspectives lyrically. Or haven't at various times.

But you really can't deny Pantera. Even though I always thought Phil was a talentless s**tbag vocalist. And his life performances were awful. The band wasn't. He was. The fact that Pantera was as good as they were say alot about mostly Dime.

Perhaps, but someone who constantly surrounds himself/herself with stupid media does not give me the best impression of his/her character.

this sounds like it could easily segue into a pro-bose/anti-bose thread.
