I enjoy a fairly odd collection of music. My favorite music group is easily They Might Be Giants... its cathy but with enough weirdness to throw off the casual listen. The music suits me perfectly.

Lately I have been listening to instrumental rock... I generally get annoyed by music with a singer nowadays. I listen to music that is complex where I can focus on the interplay between the instruments... instead of the angst of the lead singer. I like to listen to music that is avant-garde, but isn't just noise. I guess this places what I like in the realm of alternative... but not in the way that it is generally regarded as today.

I also like a bunch of classic rock... its just good stuff.

I generally don't like countly or rap though... even though I can appreciate some of the rhythm in some rap. The fact that rap is mostly about the lyrics kind of spoils it for me.

Little bit of 60s, fair chunk of 70s rock, early-mid 80s pop, bits and pieces of stuff since - virtually no post '87 pop music though - Its a scientifically proveable fact that pop music began an inexorable decent into abomination post Marrs' "Pump Up The Volume". No music which needs to be accompanied by elaborate choreographed dance routines and dress-deficient teenagers to get anyone interested in it is generally of much worth I find.....

I basically like all kinds of music. I like American pop like Britney, Asian pop like Jay Chow, and any kind of rap/R&B. The only thing I don't like is rock. Not to sound racist, but it sounds 'white' and just doesn't have enough 'soul' for my taste. I also like jazz, anything from Miles Davis to Scott Joplin to Chick Corea is good for me.

I enjoy everything but country, most punk-pop, bad bubblegum pop, and mainstream rap. I particularly love noise experimentalism like The Velvet Underground, Iggy and the Stooges, and Sonic Youth, and introspective music such as Nick Drake and Elliott Smith. Recently, I've taken an interest in Modest Mouse's earlier, lesser known work and opened up to some underground rap.

Last year's Lollapooza included Sonic Youth, The Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, and Polyphonic Spree. It was CANCELLED DUE TO LOW TICKET SALES. Taste is just too damn rare in the states these days.

I have Lonesome Crowded West, Good News for People Who Love Bad News, The Moon and Antarctica, and This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About. I only have two Sonic Youth albums, of the two my favorite is Daydream Nation.
