I'm not quite sure if anyone else mentions this but looking at my playlist of Jpop music. Maybe this list might give you some ideas?

Birushana (VERY Japanese sounding death metal)
Bleach03
Boredoms
Boris
Cornelius
DMBQ
Eternal Elysium
Flower Travellin' Band (Especially their excellent Satori release from 1972)
F**K On The Beach (Noisy Hardcore)
The Gerogerigegege (Experimental music that's NOT for the faint hearted)
G.I.S.M. (Noisy early 80's metallic hardcore)
Guitar Wolf
Koenji Hyakkei (Experimental Math Rock)
Les Rallizes Denudes (Japan's answer to The Velvet Underground)
M.A.S.S.O.N.A (Noisy Industrial Ambient)
Melt Banana
Merzbow (Industrial/ Dark ambient for 20+ years)
Osamu Kitajima
Ruins (Koenji Hyakkei reduced to a 2 piece combo of bass and drums playing free jazz inspired math rock)
Speed Glue & Shinki (Classic Japanese Stoner Rock from the early 70's, Contemporaries of Les Rallizes Denude and Flower Travellin' Band)
Zeni Geva (Experimental Death Metal, draws a LOT of musical influence from Noh performance, aside from Birushana, the most 'Japanese sounding' band in my list, contemporaries of the Boredoms)

Luna Sea are a great veteran j-pop/rock band! Pierrot might also be to your liking.

I just know a few... Boris, Dir en grey, Gazette, Merzbow (while not remotely pop or rock-related, I think), Sigh (weird black metal)

I recommend Kanon Wakeshima and Perfume.
