I strongly disagree on both counts. In fact the most talented musicians of this century seem to be working in extreme metal. To say that you've never heard of a metal band with more than a little artistic merit shows an extreme ignorance of a genre you make condescending remarks about. Your comments may apply to the mainstream mutations of rap and metal, or to particular proponents of them, but seeing as you're talking about the genres themselves, I really have a problem with your whole mindset.

Genres I hate: None, seeing as hating genres is a barrier to discovering amazing music.

I probably shouldn't have said it in such a judgmental way; but I do have personal tastes and will judge certain songs and the genres to which they belong accordingly. Also, I wasn't talking about metal in general, I was talking about heavy/black metal, and while I like the instrumentals in this genre, I have distaste for the artist screaming out the lyrics in a manner in which I cannot even understand what he's singing about, which I also find to be annoying. And I probably should have refrained from remarking that it has no artistic merit, but I generally have an unfavorable view toward these genres.

Fair enough, I see what you're saying. I guess I'm overly cautious about making generalized judgments.

Virtually all genres contain spectacular artists, horrible artists and in-between artists. That being said, I generally dislike techno dance music and have a hard time getting into most rap and mainstream American pop.

country (modern country is just soft rock 'with country flavoring'...;)
rap (most of it...all the posturing gets tiring)
techno I don't mind as much, unless it just repeats...and repeats...;)
anything with a high sugar content (Disney, 'tweener pop, girly girl pop, etc)

~ Mainstream rap
~ Lady Gaga

Ironically, my favorite music genre is everything related to electronic music.

Lady GaGa is her own genre? LOL. I agree.

I like country (the newer stuff, not the old twangy kind) and some Rap songs (the older stuff). I grew up on Metal, but it's the "old" metal like Armored Saint, Motley Crue, Anthrax, etc. (Although I find watching old 1980s MTV metal videos is almost painful in lameness)

I can't stand to listen to:
- Extreme hardcore death metal with the satanic gargling noises, e.g., Opeth, Cannibal Corpse, and so on. Various black metal, death metal, melodic death metal, nordic (viking) metal, etc.
- Hardcore gangsta rap, especially the kind debasing women
- Techno
- Screamo
- Ancient country music
- Show tunes, Disney-based music
- Light Jazz (the kind that sounds like elevator music)
- Modern-day "Renaissance" music, a la California Ren Faire [I'd rather poke my eyes out with a fork than listen to Ren Faire stuff]

I don't like music with swear words in it, some artists just do it to say it, others do it so they can express their frustration. I do occasionally like music with swear words in them when I am angry.

I would only say Screamo and Rap are the genres of music I can not stand.

Country. I can't stand it. It sometimes actualy makes me litterly sick due to my senestesia. I could never relate much to crying cowbody ballads. I perfer Enimem because I can actualy relate to what he is saying.

There's so much great country music. I can't believe all the hate! :P

Of course there's bad stuff but that's true of all genres.

That is all :-)

I really can't stand modern day country, or hip hop/rap or metal. bar/club music sucks in the midwest.
