Ah you beat me to it!

I'm surprised no one's mentioned "solitary shell" by dream theater. That song is supposed to be about autism/AS!

Also the song "you got aspergers kid" by mc frontalot, bit of an obvious choice isn't it really.

Edit: getting away with murder by papa roach. It reminds me of when the teachers used to patronise me at school and would let me off for everything because of the info on my IEP. And I didn't like it.

I totally forgot that dream theater song, I forget what album it was on though, but im thinking 6 degrees of inner turbulence.

The first verse of Victory by Urban Thermo Dynamics

(I took these lyrics off a site and corrected what I could, there's a patch where I can't work out what's said, my apologies)

Every since i was small, i played the wall
the loner type, even as a little tyke
while the other little kids were out at play,
i was home wishing for a rainy day
i didn't have friends cuz i barely even spoke
my head was mad out on a ill uni flow
surrounded outside by thieves & crooks
i found a little peace in stars & books
my outside contact was limited
cuz i was different & heads couldn't get wit it
i used to get mistaken for ?? ??
when all i ever really wanted was some love
??? remember drew back many tears
that i kept inside for so many years
all but galactic intuition, i learned the skill of being self sufficient
heads got live, while i took the train
i watched the sky & let the daytime fade
go through a whole twenty four hours of sorrow
lay down & do that sh*t all again tomorrow
keeping composure is a weighty burden
I'm smiling in your face but my chest is hurting
i want to be nice but that sh*t ain't working
turn off the light draw the curtain
will i find peace, son, i am not certain
in dark quiet places feelings go,
beating you down all hard & slow oh ohh ohhh ohh ohh....

some great mentions!
Radiohead-Jigsaw falling into place reminds me of AS.

Just as you take my hand
Just as you write my number down
Just as the drinks arrive
Just as they play your favourite song
As your bad day disappears
No longer wound up like a spring
Before you've had too much
Come back in focus again

The walls are bending shape
You got a cheshire cat grin
All blurring into one
This place is on a mission
Before the night owl
Before the animal noises
Closed circuit cameras
Before you comatose

Before you run away from me
Before you're lost between the notes
The beat goes round and round
The beat goes round and round
I never really got there
I just pretended that I had
Words are blunt instruments
Words are sawn off shotguns

Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out

Before you run away from me
Before you're lost between the notes
Just as you take the mic
Just as you dance, dance, dance

A jigsaw falling into place
So there is nothing to explain
You eye each other as you pass
She looks back and you look back
Not just once
And not just twice
Wish away your nightmare
Wish away the nightmare
You got the light you can feel it on your back
You got the light you can feel it on your back
Your jigsaw falling into place

Mad World
by Gary Jules

All around me are familiar faces
worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very very, mad world, mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very very, mad world, mad world
Enlarge your world, mad world

Everything In It's Right Place
by Radiohead

Everything, everything, everything, everything..
In its right place
In its right place
In its right place
In its right place

Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon
Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon
Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon
Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon
Everything In It's Right Place by Radiohead

Everything, everything, everything..
In its right place
In its right place
In its right place
Right place

There are two colours in my head
There are two colours in my head
What, what is that you try to say?
What, what was that you tried to say?
Tried to say.. tried to say..
Tried to say.. tried to say.. tried to say...

Everything, everything, everything..
Everything in its right place

Secret Garden
by Bruce Springsteen

She'll let you in her house
If you come knockin' late at night
She'll let you in her mouth
If the words you say are right
If you pay the price
She'll let you deep inside
But there's a secret garden she hides

She'll let you in her car
To go drivin' round
She'll let you into the parts of herself
That'll bring you down
She'll let you in her heart
If you got a hammer and a vise
But into her secret garden, don't think twice

You've gone a million miles
How far'd you get
To that place where you can't remember
And you can't forget

She'll lead you down a path
There'll be tenderness in the air
She'll let you come just far enough
So you know she's really there
She'll look at you and smile
And her eyes will say
She's got a secret garden
Where everything you want
Where everything you need
Will always stay
A million miles away

also....

I was recently listening to the Sisters of Mercy and hearing a lot of AS as well. Andrew Eldritch definitely has a powerful auditory memory, judging from the lengthy rants in many of the songs, he's known to be impossible to get along with, and if there's such a thing as singing in monotone then he sure does it with gusto. "Vision Thing" seems to be a song about synesthesia or sensory overload, colors and numbers are features much as they are in tool, and Andrew performs in sunglasses and constantly looks to his side between lines of lyrics.

"Vision Thing" is a George Bush (the old one) quote. It's an anti-Bush song. Makes me think of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. 2000 Hamburg 4, incidentally, was apparently the old postcode of the Reeperbahn. ^^ Songs like Flood definitely strike a chord (boom boom!) with me.

There's a song by Amanda Palmer (ex Dresden Dolls) called "Blake Says":

"Blake says / he is / sorry he got through to me
If it's o / kay he’ll / call right back and talk to the machine." :)

Also songs I find appropriate which I didn't see mentioned yet:

Suzanne Vega: "Small Blue Thing"

Francoise Hardy: "Tous les garcons et les filles"

Blur: "Coffee & TV"

Margo Hennebach: "I Don't Sing"

Definitely some of the Vines songs, the singer is actually diagnosed with Asperger's (that's where I learned about AS)

This song makes me think of being behind with a lot of things while my peers are growing up fast.
Newton Faulkner - Uncomfortably slow
Travelling again
I know exactly how it's gonna end
The routine day dream starts as I get off
I'm holding up the queue
Because my ticket won't go through
I know it should be simple but it's not

So don't take my photograph
Cos I don't wanna know how it looks
To feel like this
As cars and people pass
It feels like standing still but I know
I'm just moving uncomfortably slow

Something's gotta change
I know i'm lucky in a lot of ways
So why do I want more
Than what I have?
Brace myself to hear the lies
I wonder if they know that I
Don't get the jokes but I just
Need to laugh

So don't take my photograph
Cos I don't wanna know how it looks
To feel like this
As cars and people pass
It feels like standing still but I know
I'm just moving uncomfortably slow

I'm just moving uncomfortably
Slow down
There's infinite detail
When you break it down
It all becomes simple how
It all becomes clearer now

So don't take my photograph
Cos I don't wanna know how it looks
To feel like this
As cars and people pass
It feels like standing still but I know
I'm just moving sub-consciously
One day I guess i'll be
The man that you think you see
I'm just moving uncomfortably
Slow

I don't know how relevant this is... but I was singing it whilst sat alone in my room watching this thread!

Learn to be lonely from Phantom of the opera

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLse7g_Nfuo

Sorry... still can't seem to put the videos on! Must be my computer!

I know it's about the phantom but it sorts of fits... at least with me.

Another song I like is 'Unwell' by Matchbox 20. That's more to do with mental health though I think!

Yep that's the one. And each of the 6 songs is about a certain mental disorder. And solitary shell is about autism, but more on the HFA/AS side.

This doesn't describe, but it's related.

Individuality by Area 7

They always said that you
would never be anything
Everything you tried to do was
just a waste of time
but you believed you could do
anything you wanted to
you made your mind up
and you never looked behind

Don't let them try to tell you
how to live your life
don't let them hold you back
don't ever change your mind

chorus
Individuality
be proud of what you are
Individuality
don't let them cut you down
you can be whatever you want to be
but don't change your self for society
don't lose your individuality

The years go by and find that
nothing comes easily
and the world is full of people
trying to take you down
don't ever turn your back on
anything you'll ever be
you don't need to prove yourself
to anybody else

Don't let them try to tell you
how to live your life
don't let them hold you back
don't ever change your mind

chorus
Individuality
be proud of what you are
Individuality
don't let them cut you down
you can be whatever you want to be
but don't change your self for society
don't lose your individuality

There is no run for second best
no second chance don't fail the test
gotta rise above the rest
gotta try to make your mark
no need to be so vain
no need to act so proud
follow the trends don't ever
stand out from the crowd

do you really care what
other people think about you
does it really matter what they do
or what they say
you fought so hard to let 'em
throw it all back in your face
when their opinion never
mattered anyway

Don't let them try to tell you
how to live your life
don't let them hold you back
don't ever change your mind

chorus
Individuality
be proud of what you are
Individuality
don't let them cut you down
you can be whatever you want to be
but don't change your self for society
don't lose your individuality
don't lose your individuality
don't lose your individuality

I first heard this on a Youtube clip about autistic rights.
