I only like rock versions of national anthems. They're usually too formal and militaristic when performed traditionally.

La Marsaillais (French) is my second favorite.
Its rousing and easy to sing.

When I took a classical music appreciation class it occured to me the best tune to use for any naitonal anthem is Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy" because it is also rousing and for certain musical reasons- easy for untrained singers to sing.

Thought of starting a campain to get america a new anthem set to that tune.

But I learned that I was not the first to think of that Idea.

The European Union, and several third world countries already have national anthems set to Beethoven's Ode to Joy.

So my favorite anthem is any of the many set to that tune.

Given my choice in the matter, I would have much preferred God Bless America over The Star-Spangled Banner. (G. B. A. is much easier to sing than the correct US national anthem, especially when you're asked to reach for the high note in the line "o'er the la-and of the free-EE": few people even try to reach that note.

Wouldn't happen as long as the country was secular ran.

America the Beautiful might be more appropriate.

Who on here likes to listen to national anthems of various countries?

I do. I was obsessed with them at university.

Some of my favourites include the anthems of these countries:
(yeah, a lot of them  )

Also, a special shout-out to this version of my home country's anthem, God Defend New Zealand:

Here is a short excerpt from the Perverts guide to Ideology that talks about the psychology behind national anthems, specifically; Ode to Joy.
