I feel the same way about being from the North of England, Rakkety Tamm - it has its problems (economic decline, racial tension, street crime) and lousy weather (what's 'sun' again?) but the people are genuine and down to earth, the scenery is wonderful, and its where I belong. I love to visit and learn about other places, but the Bradford area of Yorkshire will always be 'home' and has a history and culture that is meaningful to me - and in my own way I'm just as proud to be Bradfordian as you are to be a patriotic Southerner (U.S. that is - 'Southerner' to me means anyone from south of Nottingham... :P )

Maybe I will post the lyrics to 'Green and Grey' after all......

vetivert has a point - Rakkety_Tamm, I understand you are proud of your Southern roots, but the constant drum beating is getting a bit much - people are starting to take offence (the brit bashing lyrics didn't help). Many of us are proud of our heritage (and I have several heritages I am happy to be part of) but you don't need to ram yours down people's throats - we get it already. Avoid upsetting the rest of us who aren't from the American South, eh?

I have to agree with Vetivert- your last post was offence to us Brits. There is nothing wrong with being proud of where you come from but its not nice to put other places down.

I lived in London for three years and hated every moment of it.

Ick. I don't like arguing. Maybe we should talk about something more cheerful. Like song lyrics, or birdies and buttercups and chipmunks and fishes! Tee hee!

La la la la la!

I like squirrels more than chipmunks, even though chipmunks are also called "Ground Squirrels"..... hm, some thing to think about, squirrels or ground squirrels.

Here's a favorite of mine, the lyrics to "Round Here" by the Counting Crows

Step out the front door like a ghost
into the fog where no one notices
the contrast of white on white

And in between the moon and you
the angels get a better view
of the crumbling difference between wrong and right

I walk in the air between the rain,
through myself and back again
Where? I don't know
Maria says she's dying
Through the door, I hear her crying
Why? I don't know

Round here we always stand up straight
Round here something radiates

Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand
She said she'd like to meet a boy who looks like Elvis
She walks along the edge of where the ocean meets the land
Just like she's walking on a wire in the circus
She parks her car outside of my house
takes her clothes off
Says she's close to understanding Jesus
She knows she's more than just a little misunderstood
She has trouble acting normal when she's nervous

Round here we're carving out our names
Round here we all look the same
Round here we talk just like lions
But we sacrifice like lambs
Round here she's slipping through my hands

Sleeping children got to run like the wind
Out of the lightning dream
Mama's little baby better get herself in
Out of the lightning

She says, "It's only in my head.:
She says, "Shhh...I know it's only in my head

But the girl on the car in the parking lot
says: "Man, you should try to take a shot
Can't you see my walls are crumbling?"

Then she looks up at the building
and says she's thinking of jumping
She says she's tired of life
She must be tired of something

Round here she's always on my mind
Round here I got lot's of time
Round here we're never sent to bed early
Nobody makes us wait
Round here we stay up very very late

I can't see nothin
Round here
Will you catch me if I'm falling, catch me if I'm falling, catch me 'cause I'm falling down on you
I said, "I'm under the gun"
Round here
Man, I said "I'm under the gun"
Round here
I can't see nothin, nothin
Round here

yay! we're back on topic! :D

Another one I like - 'High Five Anxiety' by Nerf Herder (now sadly split up I think :()

Quote:
High five anxiety, high five anxiety
don't raise your hand and
don't look at me
high five anxiety, high five anxiety
i'm not your bro and i'll never be
don't wanna play on your team, in your game
the last one picked
hey loser, hey loser! that's my name

don't talk to me, don't talk to me
don't talk to me, don't talk to me
don't talk to me...

walking down the street
can't figure out which side to pass on left or right
can't merge on the freeway
don't know where to go
when you see me there
please don't try to hug me
makin me cry
don't know how to deal...or did i say too much?
don't wanna play on your team, in your game
the last one picked
hey loser, hey loser! that's my name

don't talk to me, don't talk to me
don't talk to me, don't talk to me
don't talk to me...

don't want your hate
don't want your lies
don't want your hot apple pies
don't want your hugs
don't want your smooch
just stay away
you f*@!ing kook...

don't talk to me
don't talk to me
don't want your lies, get away from me
don't want your hate
don't want your song, don't want your junior donkey kong
don't talk to me
don't talk
to me
don't talk to me
don't talk to me
don't
talk
to
me.

strike a chord with anyone? :P

This one strikes more of a cord with me unfortunately:

Feeling bad (also Nerf Herder)

Met a girl at the movies
She was so beautiful
She was the one for me
So I asked her if I could call her at home
She said "No thanks just give me my popcorn"
So I followed her into the theater
And found a seat that was right behind her
Smelled her hair, smelled her sweater
And then I touched myself

Feeling bad about myself again
Feeling bad oh yeah
Feeling bad about myself again today

At the school, at the rock show
At the rollercade, everywhere I go
People are smiling
Iits always been the same
They're wearin' groovy clothes
Check me out I'm lame
Paid for a membership down at the local gym
Tired of getting dumped, let's get really pumped
Thought I'd look like Henry Rollins
But I still look like Phil Collins

Feeling bad about myself again
Girls ignore me in the chat room
Feeling bad about myself again today

We were in Paris
We were up in the Eiffel Tower
We were getting married and all our friends were there
We made love underneath the Parisian moon
But that was just a dream
Just a dream
Just a crazy dream

Feeling bad about myself again
Feeling bad oh yeah
Feeling bad about myself again today
Feeling bad about myself again
First to be the last one picked first
I'm feeling bad today

This is a song that totally relates to my AS and it describes how I feel about life right now:

Quote:
Waiting line,
Til your time,
Ticking clock,
Everyone stop.

Everyone's saying different things to me, different things to me. (x2)

Do you believe
in what you see?
There doesn't seem to be anybody else
who agrees with me.

Do you believe what you see?
Motion is sweet.
Nothing is real.
Wasting my time,
in the Waiting Line.
Do you believe in what you see?

9 to 5,
Living lies.
Every day,
stealing time.

Everyone's taking everything they can, everything they can. (x2)

Do you believe in what you feel?
There doesn't seem to be anybody else,
who agrees with me.

Do you believe what you see?
Motion is sweet,
nothing is real.
Wasting my time,
in the Wating Line.
Do you believe in what you see?

And our shadows scream,
but I'd rather not be seen.
I'll hide away,
for another day.

Do you believe what you see?
Motion is sweet,
nothing is real.
Wasting my time,
in the Wating Line.
Do you believe in what you see?

--Zero 7.

It is kind of a theme song for me.

Tallgirl.

Icehouse - Man Of Colours

Quote:
There's a noise upstairs in the attic,
it's the shuffle of worn out shoes.
and the scent of the oil and brushes,
drifts down like a pale perfume.
and he says, "I...
I am a man
a Simple man,
.. a man of colours.
and I can see
see through the years
years of a man,
.. a man of colours"
and the old man rubs his failing eyes,
takes a moment to watch the view.
from a window nobody knows he's there,
he can see the empty street below.
and he says,"I...
I am a man
a Simple man,
.. a man of colours.
and I can see
see through the years
years of a man,
.. a man of colours"
he says, "I keep my life in this paintbox
I keep your face in these picture frames
when I speak to the empty canvas... it tells me...
I have no need for words anyway..."
and he says, "I...
I am a man
a Simple man,
.. a man of colours.
and I can see
see through these tears
tears of a man,
.. a man of colours"
and he says, "I...
I am a man
a Simple man,
.. a man of colours.
and I can see
see through the years
years of a man,
.. a man of colours"

Beautiful song. This is what I want played at my funeral.
