It's ok Nebulo, it wasn't all your fault lol. It's a joint humiliation, I thought that I knew what Dubstep was but then KyushuFez comes in and tells me that it's sh** and then introduces me to those two awesome tracks. Now I don't know anything about DS, I would really really like it, if you and KyushuFez exchanged music tracks with me, then you guys could tell me if I'm a lost cause or not and I can be introduced to the real side of Dubstep.

Mate, it was never intended to humiliate you! I just don't like where its been heading, that's all. I put down two examples of what I thought was good DS, just to give you an idea of how good dubstep can be without some washed up pop singer in the background. Look around the web, go to beatport.com, go to the dubstep page and have a fish around there - it can lead you onto new stuff. Hell, DS isn't even the stuff I listen to the most - so take my opinion with a grain of salt!

I will always answer this question the same way.

The mainstream stuff is great to dance to when you're drunk.

The decent stuff such as Burial and Four Tet, is what I listen to on a regular basis.

Also, check out Basic Channel, and Rhythm & Sound. Both operated by the same two musicians, they are pioneers of Dub Techno.

Dubstep as we know today is a car-crash mix of Grime (2-Step) and Dub/Dub Techno. Well, that's what I think it is anyway.

What I find annoying about Dubstep is that like Drum N Bass, I find the commercial stuff too gimmicky. E.G.

I heard that Four Tet is doing a FabricLive mix, should be out around September - can't wait!!

I did not offending you intentionally, KyushuFez and I didn't say it was a bad thing either. I am open minded, I would not get mad at someone for introducing something new to me, a new idea, or a new point of view. I would not pass that up, way too good of an opportunity!

Yeah, but, I'm pretty particular. Just like I can't stand the clownstep side of dnb I don't get into the all wobble and pop sides of dubstep.

Some of the people who I do like:
Phaeleh, Scuba, Zomby, Silkie, Kito, Vaccine (her and her hubs have been making some hybrid dnb tracks as well), 2562, Shackleton, Geiom, Distance (Delight namely), and Dubchild. Also as far as dnb producers who do some crossover work into dubstep: Kryptic Minds, Instra:mental, Breakage, Consequence, and Current Value.

One question for people over in the UK, is Mount Kimbie really considered dubstep? They're slick and all but they almost seem a bit too abstract to really have both feet in there.

EGGREGUYOUS, just for fun I built an itineary of some great stuff that I've been made privy to in the last few years (anyone else is welcome, Tech's Day Tours LLC is a free excursion company). There's a lot of great stuff out there and a lot of great artists, I kept some out because obviously I wanted to keep it manageable. If anyone else wants to book a free day trip with me though feel free to set up an appointment any time you like :).

I only listen to mainstram dubstep as I've known about it for a long while now but didn't start following it till just last year. I'm not really much of a purist, and not too much a fan of the original form. Dubstep, as one of the many forms of electronica, is dropping its walls, and embrace it in all its greatness... progressive house underwent a similar revival not too long ago, trance and D&B as well, it is becoming harder and harder to classify generas as they build on the breakthroughs and trends of other genera's like trance, electro, D&B, progressive house, tech house, etc to the point that - especially if the artist blends influences so well - you cannot tell where one genera ends, and the other begins. Of all the songs Ive posted above, the last one best describes my fav. form of the genera. Wahwahwahwahwaaaahwaaaahwahwah that is cleverly cut up with bits of the chord progression played out by different synths, different sounds, different rythems that come together to make it work, and these parts are bridged together with a wonderful, emotionally rifting chord progression. Skrillex's Scary Monsters and Nice Spirits is the best example:

To techstepgener8tion...nice taste! Not so much into mainstream dubstep either...too abrasive and in your face. Love subtle stuff with R&B influences. And yes, I am a big fan of Mount Kimbie...although I would say they are more ambient than dubstep...but I can see why people would put it in the dubstep category.

Some of my favourites at the moment:

Objekt - The Goose that Got Away http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dfqhXh0avI
Teeth- Shawty http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSOV3LnL_0k
Koreless- MTI - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4lvqf79c84
Girl Unit - Wut http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc6ZqhJWRhE
XXXY - Ordinary Things http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cpp2LsDPJCY
Sepalcure - Love Pressure http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBp0EyMhCwE
Pariah - Crossed Out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6Fl1GB6PP0
Blawan - Getting me Down http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RJy2-F2irA
Joy Orbison - Sicko Cell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLTGnQxJmwY
Julio Bashmore - Battle for Middle You http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiEej8UXJlw

Jacques Greene - more garage/2-Step, but love him just the same.

Yeah, I tend toward darker/softer pallets. Then again I think that could just be an age bias of mine, when I hear really bright/synthetic stuff I tend to think clownstep and dismiss it out of hand, perhaps even too soon. Bottom line though is its gotta have soul and, if it's real typically in-your-face and wobbly, its gotta be angular enough to be distinctive or unique.

Kito and Silkie both have been nailing the rnb with class in the last few years, part of why I like them both a lot.

wow man, I really really loved that first set. This is the type of sound I'm personally going for in remixing my material. The second set was good too, especially that darkstep warrior tune, filthy and grimey mechanical but simple.

Yeah, what sucks is the lack of originality and creativity among a lot of dubstep artists. Due to the rise in new technologies it seems like everyone can make something with wobble, but not enough artists are drawing from other genres to vary up their sounds and actually make them...well...listenable. Plus it's something I can sense people are getting tired of, since all of the hype is now towards artists that are a lot more. You really have to pick through artists, I find.

Just listened to some stuff by both Kito and Silkie...exactly what I'm talking about, and both are pretty good!

Machinedrum is an artist I'm really getting into....very experimental and euphoric stuff.
