my favourite period of time in the previous century for musical composition was from 1973 to 1979.
there seemed to be a correctness of packaging that made many of the songs composed in that era timelessly appropriate.
the sixties had harsh wailing experimental music often. most of the stuff from the sixties sounds empty and bland and cringeworthy really. the recording quality was crude and ambience was difficult to discern. there was some excellent compositions by the beatles and hendrix during the late 60's, as well as motown classics and stuff, but the recording quality ruins it for me.
there was a major upgrade in recording quality in early 1973 that allowed music from that point on to be able to carry very subtle harmonics and timbre variations etc that enhanced the listening experience.
the classic artists that i would ascribe as either exceptionally gifted or genius, seemed to have their "sweet spot" of creativity between 73 and 79.
after 1979, there seems to me to be a sudden withdrawal of that creative energy, and all the gifted prodigies that were pumping out classics started to produce stuff which seemed contrived and arduously assembled.
like for example billy joel who is a genius in my mind (as he was between 1973 and 1979) had his last genius (in my mind) song in 1978. it is called "honesty".
here is it

i can see an exceptional and self sustaining creativity of musically inevitable direction in that song (as well as the lyrics are haltingly relevant to my own mentality).
but this next one is from 1980, and while it is musically correct, it seems to be a contrived compilation of chordal structures with a standard issue drum track underscoring it.
it seems molded by environmental factors like expectations of listeners, and it is something i find utterly uninteresting and it seems the flame that burned inside the musical souls of many prodigious composers were extinguished as of 1980, and they then carried on trying to recreate artificially what came naturally to them before.

elton john is the same.
so is supertramp and stevie wonder (he made "lady in red" in 1980 i think) which was completely barfable. none of those classical artists produced anything of exceptional merit after 1979 in my opinion.
i know i waste my time writing this, but i have 2 other computers completely employed 100% cpu to their tasks, so games are out of the question, and wp is in the avenue of things i can do.
