Belle and Sebastian(not sure if they count as alternative)?

Hipsters have made it seem like they are the greatest band ever and I can only listen to a few of their songs without having to press next.

I think If You're Feeling Sinister is genuinely great, the rest of everything else they ever did is really inconsistent.

I agree with Radiohead and Nirvana.

Tool, well...I like Tool, but yeah, Maynard does tend to annoy me, sometimes I think it would be rather swell if they did an instrumental album. Some of their songs are pretty great, but they just have this tendency to verge on sounding very generic every time they begin to try to sound 'heavy', which is aggravating.

Pretty much every popular 'alt.' band of the 90's is pretty over-rated. One that is UNDER-rated, however, from that same time-period, is My Blood Valentine, in my opinion. Forget Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, and the likes. It's all about My Bloody Valentine, and Swans, too, both of which played on through the 90's, though both bands were, in fact, given birth to by the 80's.

The "alternative" in alternative rock is kind of a contradiction, isn't it?

I like Coldplay because I enjoy their music. I hate how passionate and narrow minded people can become over music, like how they they cuss everywhere just because the band might try something a tiny bit different. I listen to music because I enjoy it regardless what others say about the band, whether it good or not. That's how I can go from listening to something heavy like Metallica to something quirky like Modest Mouse.

Oh, and I am not calling any of you narrow-minded. :P

I really like Nirvana and Radiohead, don't think they were / are overrated.

And Belle and Sebastian is ok, but the good songs are pretty good. Everything else I agree on.

I think U2 is really overrated...

Every band that doesn't have NoFX, Rancid, or Bastards in their name is overrated.
