The only albums I remember owning when I was 13 were Beastie Boys - Ill Communication, Stone Temple Pilots - Purple, the Mortal Kombat soundtrack, Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral, and everything Metallica had released until that point.

Shania Twain - Come on over
Avril Lavinge - Let go
Black eyed peas - Elephunk

All albums that my mum bought me because popular culture told her too. I had no music taste as this age, so they were all awesome. Shania's still a guilty pleasure

Your list is very similar to mine - I've enboldened the ones I played.

I also played:

The Collection - Ultravox
Stay on These Roads - A-Ha
Fantastic - Wham
Make It Big - Wham
Madonna - You can Dance
Madonna - Like a Prayer
Luxury of Life - Five Star
Get Even - Brother Beyond
So - Peter Gabriel
Don't Stop Dancing - collection of street dance hits

What I would listen to today is more like CosmicRuss's list.

Ah, we're the same age.

I listened to most of the other ones you mentioned too. Still do. (-:

Anything by Smashing Pumpkins, but especially Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness. I got to see them on that tour and it was awesome.

I was also obsessed with the band Live, who is from the area where I grew up and, at that time, still recorded there. My friend and I more or less stalked those poor guys when we were in junior high and high school. Throwing Copper was a favorite by them.

In hindsight, I wonder if my mother was way too permissive ... I probably shouldn't have been at shows unattended while that young.

Oh man

I was 13 in 95-96 so...

A lot of alternative/grunge, I was definitely a child of the northwest:

Smashing Pumpkins--Siamese Dream
Pearl Jam-Ten
Stone Temple Pilots--Purple and Core
Soundgarden--Superunknown
Green Day--Dookie
Alice in Chains--Unplugged and Dirt
Offspring--Ignition and Smash

Plus some stuff my dad brought me up with:
everything Zeppelin 1 thru Physical Graffiti
Yardbirds greatest hits
Beatles white album
Various Rolling Stones tracks

I didn't really have many albums at all when I was 13. I didn't usually have much spending money. When I was 13, I did buy Sam's Town, by The Killers (I didn't really listen to it much until a couple of years after though) and No Angel, by Dido. I loved Dido, although that album put me in a strange mood. I also liked Joss Stone's album, Mind, Body & Soul (although I don't really like it now - her third album, Introducing Joss Stone, was much better). When I was 14, I slowly started to build up my collection.

Oh boy, that's a tough one.

As far as I know, I had only discovered the wonders of metal, so here goes.

Metallica - Ride The Lightning
Korn - Korn
Limp Bizkit - Significant Other
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory/Meteora

Looking back from 7 years ago, I like to think my music tastes have 'matured' a little, where I now incorporate artists such as The Beach Boys and The Beatles into my collection. :)

Henbane and Mummy_of_Peanut, even though I was born in 1987, when I was 13 my favourite album was 'The Final' by Wham! It was a gift from my aunt, because I had always loved George Michael's songs, and had been really getting into his music in 1999/2000. Unfortunately, I haven't really warmed up to the albums he put out after 'Ladies & Gentlemen', but I recently put together a 'mixtape' CD containing all the Wham! and George Michael songs that aren't on the 'Best Of/Greatest Hits' albums. Oh, and I still think he's amazing live.

When I was 13, I mostly enjoyed compilation albums, 'Best Ofs'. Those were usually the ones my mother bought for herself, compilations by her favourite artists. I think the first album I bought for myself after 'The Final' was 'The Immaculate Collection' by Madonna.

It wasn't until I was about 20 that I switched from mainly owing 'Best Ofs' and 'Greatest Hits' toi actually appreciating whole albums with tracks that weren't played on the radio. Pretty daft, huh?

Alice In Chains - Dirt
Anthrax - Persistence Of Time
Suicidal Tendencies - Still Cyco (or Feel Like Isht Deja Vu - think I had both)
Faith No More - Angel Dust

A lot of the songs on ''Now 55'' and ''Pop Party 1'', which were CDs what were brought out when I was 13. Also I kept listening to ''Miss Di-na-mi-te''.

The Holy Bible - Manic Street Preachers
Electroshock Blues - eels
Fold Your Arms Child, You Walk Like A Peasant - Belle and Sebastian
International Velvet - Catatonia
Radiator - Super Furry Animals

Yes. I once tried to be an indie kid/Welsh.
