Female: Kimbra Johnson who was already mentioned by cmoonbeam1, Florence Welch, Kate Bush, Emeli Sande and Norah Jones. I don't listen to male singers, so I have no idea about their voices.

I'm a big fan of David Draiman from Disturbed... If you'll just listen for a moment, you'll think he's just another heavy metal screamer. If you listen to one of his ballads, you'll realize there's a very beautiful voice behind all that screaming. And if you listen to more of his work, I think you'll agree that nobody moves back and forth between the two styles, and excells at both, the way he does.

(I also will just list one because I don't know enough female singers to judge.)

it's an interesting question for me because i think there is a difference between good singing & beautiful sounding voices.
for instance i love the sound of Petula Clark or Natalie Merchant, even though neither one is a great singer. (among male singers i like the sound of Peter Murphy & Dean Martin.) Celine Dion is technically impressive, but i'm not the least bit interested in listening to her singing. her voice has no individuality.
also, there are good singers who almost never pick a good song (Crystal Gayle), so it seems to me that choosing songs is a completely separate talent.
sometimes i think i am attracted by the personality that is projected, as much as the actual sound (Nina Simone, Patti Smith).
then there is something mysterious that a singer creates, so mysterious that i can't even identify it (Edith Piaf)--& this is best of all.

Some oldies: Jackson Browne for "most beautiful," but Roger Daltrey (the Who) for best male vocalist overall - such a great rock vocalist. His "Rocks in the Head" CD is a master class in rock vocals.

Female, maybe Amy Grant (for years I thought she was just "too wholesome" for me, but when she started doing secular albums (Heart In Motion) I got into her stuff)... Joni Mitchell is maybe my fave female vocalist overall, but Amy Grant is probably a better pick for "most beautiful voice."

One other, and I only know her from one CD, but Dame Janet Baker does the soprano part on a recording of Respighi's "Laud to the Nativity" - this is a very difficult piece to sing, and she just absolutely nails all the notes, voice sounds good high and low... Collins Digital 13492... not easy to find, but one of my treasures.

Florence Welch of Florence+The Machine: Really powerful, entrancing voice.

Brandon Boyd from Incubus is an amazing male singer.
