I can sing, and my voice sounds good alone or in a small group(random genius friends just for fun) but I have never been accepted into a choir where the person deciding heard me sing with a group. I don't think my voice blends well in a large group. I love to sing, so lately I've been running out into the middle of the woods and singing. It's a ton of fun.

I could if I wanted to but I don't. At least not when I think people can hear me.

I've got perfect-pitch and can sing decently but I don't have a soloist voice... you know, the exciting type that makes people cheer after a song.

I made a better director than singer in that regard... (except those in the church choir that were nearly tone-deaf tend to get ornery if you keep telling them their pitch is really off. Pity they also like to sing the loudest, drowning out the ones in tune!) :skull:

Do you think the "sensory Issues" would prevent someone being in the choir? I have been rejected (it was ugly) but I sincerely wanted to learn. It might take me 3 to 4 tries before I know the songs, but would you reject someone who was sincere?

Also, my sister is in a high class church choir and she tells me don't try because I am on the spectrum and she is not.

You'd have to be abysmally bad for any church choir director to really turn you away. ;) I mean completely tone deaf and an assault to the senses! :D

Ignore your sister's advice... sounds more like she's trying to keep you off "her turf". If you want to do it, do it! You may not be a star of the show, but that's the wrong reason to be in a group anyway!

I sing a lot when I'm alone, I like to try and perfect the right sound in certain songs, I'm more like a baritone.

Lately I've been trying to mimic REM, but no such luck; his voice is too unique for me to follow without proper control of my voice.

Off and on. It helps to have someone singing with me, that way I'm not as a monotone starting out.

My voice is something that I've always been very afraid/embarrassed to share with the world. I only sing when I'm alone and out of earshot of anyone else. I've sung for a very long time though and I've practically taught myself how to be a competent vocalist. My vocal range is versatile as well. I comfortably sing somewhere between a mid-baritone and up through the bass registers, but I can make my way up into mid-range tenor on a good day (yes, my voice varies somewhat day to day or even with the weather). I can even do a somewhat passable alto in the falsetto register but I don't try this a lot as it is somewhat of a strain and I don't want to damage my vocal chords. As an American, I've often heard that most men cannot sing the Star Spangled Banner, but I'm able to do it without going into falsetto (so I guess that means something?).
Since I'm really in to classical music, I'll sing in the car with the bass and tenor parts of some works by Mozart, Haydn, etc. which is somewhat enjoyable and it passes the time, but since I'm locked into one position, it's really not possible to breathe properly.

Maybe someday if I'm dared to do it in the right kind of situation, I'll sing in public, but right now, it's my own little plaything.

I cannot sing. In fact my voice frightens the local children.

But there have been a few times when someone started to sing that I did not realize could sing. The effect can be completely magical. When someone can sing, I am in awe.

On that note, I would love to teach myself sing......... but it's better said than done. I'm not trying to be Justin Bieber, but someone from the 1980s, with more..... oomph to it.

I think I can sing quite well ( at least it sounds good when I am all by myself. ) But I am quite certain I don't have a perfect pitch, but I don't think that really is necessary either.

I can do baritone singing in one key (perfect pitch though, damn monotne), screams and growls, which are useful as a metal fan.

Also, sometimes my growls sound like hisses while playing bass haha.

No, but I like singing anyway. Here:

Monotonous and untuned voice. Well, at least it sounds nice when I am speaking. :(

Except for the last 3 samples. I think they are actually quite good. :D

Yes I can. I think everyone can learn to sing - most people just haven't been taught well. I'm lucky my father is musically minded!

As for my range, I don't know. I'm usually classified as mezzo for choir, but that's just voice part as opposed to voice range. I've been working on expanding my belting range and now I'm trying to go for evenness of tone and color. I'm basically self-taught, though I'd really like a teacher.

I like all sorts of singing. Were it up to me, I'd take classes in classical voice, music theater voice, and pop-style voice (like Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Minnie Riperton).

Ok, after being in church choir for two weeks I guess I can sing.
