Some other awesome recommendations in this thread I'll be looking into as well.

Screw all you people who embedded dozens of videos after I'd asked politely to not do that. I can't go into this thread now without my computer temporarily crashing.

Likewise, my laptop has slowed at least a dozen times due to the excessive video embedding.

I couldn't go through all the videos posted because it messed with my computer, but I didn't see Man Must Die listed anywhere.

Burzum is not NSBM despite Varg being a Nazi, and despite the fact that basically every Burzum cover song ever done is by an NSBM/RAC act (don't look at me like that, I know you guys are). You can say you won't listen to Burzum because the guy is a Nazi, but you cannot say Burzum is NSBM. I apologize if I misunderstood what you wrote.

Do you listen to Drudkh? They've been deceiving people for a long time on this one. They only say they aren't NSBM to sell more records.

I don't technically listen to what people would call 'extreme' (I listen to more folk-like and pagan metal, not like what people typically think of black and death metal) though, but I have:

Svarga (from Russia, not the NSBM act from Ukraine) - Wolf. That's basically what I listen to. This band has done work with the more known Russian band Arkona. I didn't want to just come in and say NSBM stuff, so I give this.

So basically you're saying that he isn't National Socialist Black Metal, he's just a National Socialist who happens to play black metal.

Yes, Burzum is not NSBM. It sounds unbelievable I know, I respect your doubt and aren't going to get angry at you or anything, but it is perfectly viable. Horna is not considered NSBM but had a lead singer who went on to form the NSBM band Satanic Warmaster, it can happen.

There has to be certain criteria met on a case-by-case basis, and that is why sometimes if they can hide it well enough people can talk for hours about if they really are or not, like Watain.

I'm just trying to avoid that whole nazi scene, man. It's not about if they identify specifically as "nazi black metal" but even "black metal bands fronted or affiliated with nazis" would make me uncomfortable.

Like imagine you went to a restaurant, and the restaurant was decorated with swastikas and your server struck up a conversation about how much he hates non-white people, and the person who took you to said restaurant was like "it's okay, it's not nazi food".

It's why I'm really wary when I get into black metal bands, and have to do a lot of research when I find something I might enjoy. I like certain aspects of the genre aesthetically and musically (especially the vocal style), and I'm totally cool with the strong anti-Christian sentiment so many bands share. I'm just not comfortable with overt race-hate in my music and would not wish to promote or support such artists who would promote those views.

I’ve been carefully following Drudkh since Forgotten Legends and can’t find any NS content in their songs/albums, let alone enough to warrant use of the ‘NSBM’ tag.
Der Sturmer, Galgenberg, Ohtar, War 88, Dark Fury, Aryan Terrorism… these are bands with prominent NS themes, not Drudkh or even Hate Forest.
Drudkh’s lyrics and themes are more about Slavic history, nature etc.

Yes, early on in their Supernal years there was a shirt floating around that read “Art For White Intellectual Elite” and one Hate Forest album (“The Most Ancient Ones” I believe) read “True Aryan Black Metal” in the liner notes which may make Roman a Slavic nationalist, and perhaps a racist of sorts, but that’s not the same as being a National Socialist. I also believe that the song “Ukrainian Insurgent Army” off BIOW was dedicated to Ukrainian soldiers who resisted German NS influences.

Also Varg is certainly a racist, but he has spoken out against the use of NS ideology in recent years, instead identifying himself as an Odalist and someone who supports ancient Scandinavian democracy rather than Socialism or a dictatorship.

I've been sort of out of the loop for some time now regarding underground stuff, but here are a few bands you might like...

Demoncy - Low-fi Black Metal with the guitars tuned waaay down. I guess you could call it Blackened Doom?

Stomach Earth - Doom Metal. Not sure what ever came to happen to them. I think all they released was a demo...

Esoteric - One of the best Doom bands out there, by far. Its not unusual for them to release a two disc album with only 3 songs on each disc. Songs typically are around 17-28 minutes long.

Destroyer 666 - Aussie Black/Thrash metal. LOVE these guys.

There are so many more I could probably list if I put my mind to it...

Seconding Destroyer 666. Great recommendation! :D

Also check out Gospel of the Horns, or if you want something a bit more violent and “war metal” like, Bestial Warlust (formerly Corpse Molestation). Both have (or had) members that played in Destroyer 666.

I'll second Ulver, I think the OP would especially like "Bergtatt", a hugely influential bm/folk album that was even influential on later "post-metal" type releases.

Also I like most of Enslaved's releases but "Frost" is absolutely mindblowing and truly a bm masterpiece. The artwork describes the music inside perfectly.
