Hmm I don't really know, I know lots of people are familiar with Dark Side of The Moon but not so much the other albums. I like all their music and have heard all their albums I know of, I doubt I have heard every song they ever made but certainly all the full albums and I have most of them.

There isn't much to talk about these days, aside from how much they suck without Jon Anderson.

I had a friend who said he liked The Wall, he only has Comfortably Numb on his iPod.

Well in the case of a lot of bands, the people who only know the singles are kind of subsidizing the "true fanbase". A lot of venues will look at youtube views and spotify plays when choosing which artists to book. The band gets offered large sums of money to play festival gigs, which is basically "give us an hour long set of your hits", but because of that money and exposure they can continue making the albums the fans wanna hear and playing the shows the fans wanna see.

At one point the Pink Floyd fame and singles were in a roundabout way subsidizing Roger's (rather brilliant) solo albums. But he hasn't recorded anything in a very long time, and the band hasn't been active in nearly two decades. They're basically just a merchandising brand at this point.

There is no such thing as "Classic Rock". Since you are calling it a "Classic Rock Band" as such it means it's obviously popular and well known.

Many people might be intimidated by the stigma that surrounds Pink Floyd. Stereotyping Pink Floyd as the quintessential definition of drug induced rock in itself will push back a percentage of the population from really understanding the music. I don't think Pink Floyd is any different from other older rock groups in reference to popularity. Many people who aren't deep into music will of course only come to know what is played repeatedly on the radio. Those people may legitimately enjoy the music of Pink Floyd, which might be only 3 songs they are familiar with.

David Gilmour is one of my biggest influences in regards to playing the guitar.

Blasphemy!....though I do sort of see your point that wording cannot be permitted Pink Floyd is the musical form of madness. The merchandise is just a bi-product I mean what band doesn't have any merchandise? Fans of music groups like having things that express their liking for the bands they like.

Unfortuantly, though there will always be people with certain band merchandise that don't even listen to the band...like someone wearing a rolling stones t-shirt because it's 'vintage' but they don't even like the music.

There is classic rock, its just not a genre since it does not refer to a specific kind of music but rather older rock music of various styles.

So why must something be realasing new songs to be worth listening to and be nice?

So old fans have something new to listen to and so new people get introduced to the band.
