I don't know the name or the singer, but... there was this really depressing song... this is half the reason I don't listen to country music!! ...

There was this song that my Dad made me listen to, that was about this couple, and the guy was getting ready to get on a plane for a buisness trip, and they kissed and said goodbye. But right before he got on the plane, he sent her a post card that said "Wish you were here, wish I could see your face... but the weather's nice, it's paradise, it's summer time all year, and some friend's you know, they say hello..."

Well, his plane crashed, and she's notified, and she's devastated, and suddenly that postcard has a whole new meaning. :(

The composer of this song says he tried to write "The Saddest Song In The World"

Someone already posted Gloomy Sunday...

Concrete Angel - Martina McBride

I'm not a country fan, but this is a favourite of my mother's. I find it very moving.

Well, off the top of my head there is "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton, then there is "Box of Rain" from the Grateful Dead. Heck, while I'm at it may as well add "Brokedown Palace" and Both of those seem sadder once you find out the reasons behind each of them. Also "Eleanor Rigby " by the Beatles, I suppose.

Oh wow......Just two weeks there was a local news story. The emergency dispatcher was called out to help in a suicide case. The suicide victim actually left this song to say good-bye. The dispatcher said it left him in tears. It is sad

yah, not so sure I can answer that with more than one.
Depending on how melancholy I already feel, Imogen Heap's "The Moment I Said It" really makes me cry. So moving. (I would post the YouTube but that tends to not work for me so I recommend everyone hear it on their own. AWESOME song). Exile by Enya is a close second. It's not necessarily saddening, I guess...Enya is generally known for making extremely moving music, and I don't blame her that a lot of people shed tears over her stuff. Enya is awesome. Anybody who can make music as dramatic and moving as hers deserves the reactions she gets from her listeners, like most good recording artists. And that's not necessarily a negative thing. Not at all.

I don't think I could pick one song as the saddest. It all comes down to what I'm experiencing when I hear it, really. I could list a few that have really affected me at one time or another because of this.
