Here is Sweden's own Shining. (Note: not 'The' Shining, just 'Shining'. Also, I make the note of them being from Sweden to distinguish them from another Shining, a Norwegian progressive jazz outfit.) They are the pioneers of a particularly 'kvlt' branch of black metal known as Depressive Suicidal Black Metal, or DSBM. However, only their earlier material, in my opinion, (the first three albums) can be classified as such. From their fourth album onward, they made a name for themselves thanks to their long-winded and multi-layered brand of progressive black metal. This music is compelling, melancholic, heavy and often has acoustic portions. Make no mistake, Niklas Kvarforth is a demented genius, and is undeniably the driving creative force behind Shining. Here's one of my favorite songs of theirs.

This is awesome! I wish more black metal bands sounded like this, because this is totally something I could get into! \m/ \m/

I agree! What eventually put me off with regards to black metal is the huge amount of crap I have to wade through in order to find that one occasional gem. At least, that's how it is for me. But perhaps I need to try again and find new music, it's just that I found searching in the death, doom, occasional thrash and progressive and etc genres more rewarding.

Some years ago I listened to a lot of (ds)bm but I stopped doing that because at a certain point I found the variety too little.

My recommendation for brutal music is Strappling Young Lad.

What's great about it is it manages to atmospheric to extreme metal beyond just black metal, they have elements of death metal, thrash metal, and industrial metal as well as prog. I say they are probably the heaviest metal band to have broken out commercially with their more melodic (but still very heavy) album The New Black.
