your a man after my own heart skafather84 i saw your vids and i thought u might like these

Bad brains (live at the late cbgbs (way to crush my dreams urban development!))- Pay to Cum

Nirvana - Smeels like teen spirit

Had to include this one - Wierd Al - smells like nervana

i myself am currently working on a song called smells like stairway (luckly im rythm so my friend the lead guitarist has to play the hard part while i play some three chord crossover sucked in) its basically a fussion of the the two songs bought together by there overatedness and unknown lyrical meaning. its basically just an attempt to anoy those conservitive metal heads who say cobain turned metal into mindless three chord punk. durr thats what he was trying to do its the whole point! thats what made him so great. but don't get angry at us were comedians we'll just laugh at you.

i think we're coming from the same place in terms of punk and ska...but i've gone a little bit beyond those boundaries....and have looked to expand my horizons beyond simple genres.

that being said.....

fishbone and weapon of choice (http://weaponofchoice.net/) are where it's at for musical evolution.

but i try to avoid the predictable.....i could easily post a video for three minute hero....but what good would that do? it's easy to find ska music......i look to do more than just ska by this point...skafather is more because i picked the name for myself back in '97.....so i feel stuck to it on the internet.

but for the sake of the complaining....

i admit full ignorance about the first wave....not because i'm ignorant about the first wave but because i'm lazy and there's more music and more important music than simply the first wave of ska music.

my mp3 players to full to expand my herizons but i like original bands. genres arn't such a bad thing though. oh well you can be like cobain and try to recreate the punk movement by starting a whole new genre or you can be like billie joe armstrong and copy johnny ramone but i don't care. strummers law everyones a sellout everyones a copycat and everyones a posser i just try to have a sense of humour about it

maybe bands like husker du are original or maybe they just bumped the treble nob lol.

hey if you like obscure alt bands check out splendora they do the daria theme song remind me of a female husker du only with a little black comedie.

splenora did the daria theme?

interesting...i always wondered who did that song.....bet they rock....i'll definitely check them out.

as far redefining a genre or reconfirming a definition of a genre......i'd rather do a different combination of the two.......i think i can do both.

I usually listen to a lot of metal these days but I'm having trouble finding decent video clips of the bands I like. So for now here is some stuff from other genres I've been into:

My Bloody Valentine - "To Here Knows When"

Even though I don't listen to it a lot these days I've always found the IDM genre to have very interesting videos visually, since they tend to carefully sync the visual elements to the rhythms:

Aphex Twin - "On":

Autechre - "Gantz Graf" (amazing - like a glimpse into the inner world of machines. I recommend viewing the DVD of this one since YouTube doesn't do it justice - and audio is always slightly out of sync on Youtube. The neat thing about this video is that the shape morphs in perfect sync to the very complex sounds):
