The works of Daniel Samuels also caught my eye in this topic. I love mythology, especially the Greek mythology, and I have a soft spot for everything Greek, as I have been born there and lived in Athens until I was 17. Yes, I do speak Greek, too.

Graelwyn, I was wondering what was the size of these paintings as to me they look like rather large works of about maybe 5-6 feet wide and about 3-4 feet high. Am I correct to picture them in that format?

Yes, that is about the size they are. I remember seeing one of his canvases on his easel and it was pretty darn big. I shall have to measure a print when I get hold of them. He only started producing these works after an incident where he almost died, from what my father told me.

What an interesting person he must have been. What a shame that you did not get to know your uncle better. It is sad sometimes how some people in our lives just slip away without us getting to really know them.

I don't know why I love this painting so much. I just do. It's by Mark Rothko.

Winged Victory at the Louvre, marble, about 190 BC, Greek (found on island of Samothrace)

I visited the Louvre when I was 18. I was in love with Paris, and when I walked into the Louvre, I looked left, and at the end of a very long corridor I saw this statue. I was mesmerized - I stared at it as I walked towards it and it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. I went back a few years ago and they'd moved it to some little alcove, and it doesn't have the same impact it did before, but I still think it's the most beautiful statue I've ever seen.

Patrick Nagel was for many years in the 70s and 80s one of the main illustrators for magazines like Playboy and Penthouse!

I loved his very graphic desogn like drawings of women and had a huge collection of them.

These are wonderful, thanks everyone for sharing them. Star, the Rothko paintings...his works just blows me away, they are wonderful. One day I will visit them at the MoMA! :)

Winged Victory looks a very 'powerful' sculpture, aylissa, full of movement.
