I think the music from LOTR is nothing short of genius. I especially like Concerning Hobbits and the theme of the Rohirrim.

Howard Shore's music was strongly influenced by Ralph Vaughn Williams and Edgar Elgar.
But yet there are quite a lot of very original phrases in his work.

Well, then, with the influence of the musicians who have gone before, he should have no excuse not to have traces of genius. I suppose no musician is truly original anymore. All art is that way. Anything completely original seems to be so because no one [/i]wanted[i] to think of it before.

I'll have to check those guys out, though.

I got a double-CD set I made of the music. Most of it was acquired via Limewire, and I'm still 'missing' a part: The Black Gates from RotK.
