Does At The Drive-In count?

If not, I like Rush, Tool, King Crimson and Pink Floyd.

While I don't consider metal a subgenre of progressive rock, prog rock and metal both seem to embrace movement based song structures more than mainstream/pop rock, and this seems to be what makes both genres have appeal to me.

Three of the Progressive Rock bands popularized the 1970s come to mind as my favorites: Foreigner, ELO, and Genesis.

Does Tool count? They're kind of more metal than rock, but I'm obsessed with Tool :D

My two/three favorite songs...

I approve of these two picks.

I'm just going to steal everyone else's list =)

Add Kansas and TOOL as well.

I've tried to get into Opeth, but it doesn't really grab me...the metal stuff, I don't care for the screaming, and the acoustic stuff is too repetitive.

I really need to get more of his music. I have Deadwing and whenever I pop it into my car stereo, it stays there for months and months. It's such perfect night-driving music, I never get tired of it.

You should look into Steven Wilson's solo albums as well. Although it's less proggy than Porcupine Tree, his work is still damn fine as far as I'm concerned. The Raven That Refused to Sing especially is a solid album.

I've been meaning to have a closer look at Marillion and Saga. I obtained a few of their albums, but like Spock's Beard, just didn't grab me. Same for Dream Academy. Maybe they're too derivative of Yes, Rush, Maiden, et. al.?

Yeah, definitely. Porcupine Tree already is basically him solo, and I've read that he might retire that band and just stick with his solo stuff for a while.

Deadwing was just happenstance...I found the promo CD at a thrift store, so I snatched it up.

Same here, regarding Marillion. It's good stuff, it just doesn't grab me.

Except for tracks 2 and 3 on Misplaced Childhood (Kayleigh/Lavender), I really, really, really like that song(s) :jester:

...now that I think about it, I'm not sure if I ever got around to listening to any of the albums after that one...

Rush. Always and forever.

Older Genesis is also great, and certainly Yes & King Crimson...but none of them can compete with Rush as far as I'm concerned.

Porcupine Tree is essentially disbanded at this point. It's kind of a shame, in all honesty. I didn't even discover Porcupine Tree until a few years ago when it had already been defunct for a while, and while I've seen Steven Wilson live once, I found it slightly disappointing that he didn't perform much Porcupine Tree material live. Then again, I don't blame him for wanting to leave that behind in a sense.

Still, I'd pay handsomely for a Porcupine Tree reunion show.
