i saw an interview some talking head did with Britney, and i was struck by just how fragile [psychologically] she seemed. it seemed that if the wind blew on her wrong that it would rock her world. it seemed like she was not quite intelligent enough or sufficiently present-of-mind to make enough sense of this hellworld to be able to keep her head above water in rough seas. she reminded me a bit of some halfway house folk i knew at Western State.

I think she's probably intelligent enough, she's certainly not Jessica Simpson, but people have been exploiting her most of her life. Start them young, take their money, sell their body, have them make music that certain people like. Don't give them a say in matters, it just seems her mental health has taken another nosedive.

Well that is what I mean. she got into the whole pop music scene when she was pretty much just a teen and from there she didn't get to just live normally or develop...she had producers and people pushing how she should perform and she didn't even write half her lyrics. LIke she never got to be an independent person, so how could she be expected to just take that on once the fame and such wore off? Like the whole thing just seems kind of messed up...like seems to me she kind of got exploited which she's probably not the first famous person for that to be the case.

I didn't know about this either, but I agree it's very sad. I remember when she shaved her head and was screaming for help but the tabloids just butchered her.

Her story reminds me of Judy Garland. Unfortunately it may have the same ending.

OMG...what the f**k...uhh you have ruined the wizard of oz for me, not really its still a really cool story but damn, I did not know the actress had to deal with so much stuff to do the role. Her mother gave her drugs to perform? like wow. I did not know about any of that, the main thing I ever heard was the paint the tin man used could have been dangerous and the costume the guy playing the lion wore got really overheated at times. I never had heard before the story of the actress who played Dorathy, like if all that stuff is true that is pretty sad. I loved her role in that movie but it is sad to think she was kinda forced.

So they hired Judy instead?...also though shirley temple was kind of a sad story to. LIke some of the movies she did they put so much products in her hair that sure it looked cute in front, but the weren't showing the bald spots and such so much hair abuse was causing to her. I have seen images of like how bad her hair got but I guess the imporatant thing is if she appeared on t.v with a full head of curls for the audience even if they had already ruined her hair it was nothing. And once she got out of the fame circuit well...she was just an old lady with patchy hair so who wanted her after that?

I know, right?
The States and Europe just cannot live without their sleaze and scandal celebrity gossip-mongering human vultures. Only real vultures are nicer because they actually wait until after you're dead to pick you apart.

That stuff is very true. She lost financial independence, had addictions, relationship problems and family trauma just like Britney. Britney does have a sister who got pregnant very young (15 I think?) when she was filming for TV. The Spears family is very controlling and domineering just like Judy's.

If you like The Wizard of Oz you might want to check out Meet Me in St Louis, which is my all-time favourite Judy film.

It's where this song originated:

You may not want to look up what the falling snow actually was.
