I noticed that it doesn't matter what genre a band is as long as you like them, so I'll list "The Pixies", and list them under "Alternative Metal/Black Metal".

Halo isn't bad though, they're on the same label as Pig Destroyer, I believe, and are originally from Australia.

This almost seems competative... lol As you can guess from the name I'm a bit of an afficianado... so lets sub-divide! Woo!

I am a fan of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Trivium, Disturbed... and hopefully more when I give them a try.

Now, with two exceptions, all of these groups have something in common.

I've liked many, but Death and Dream Theater would have to be the top two.

I haven't seen anybody mention Cryptopsy. Somebody might have mentioned Nile. I haven't seen the Red Chord anywhere either.

I just recently unearthed an excellent underground metal band called Rosetta. They're sort of like progressive hardcore doom metal with an extra helping of awesome.
