Were they skinheads or were they black metal fans? NSBM is National Socialist Black Metal and at least from what I've seen it's as tied to it's politics as crust punk and RABM (Red/Anarchist Black Metal) are to theirs. Black metal bands get lots of leeway for discussing all the same subject matter that comes up in NSBM without being identified by that term, so when bands explicitly choose to identify by that term it's usually because they know that's their audience and they don't want people who aren't part of those circles to hear it.

Good question! I thought they were NSBM but to be honest they didn't choose any labels other than being "Oi" culture which I have probably conflated with NSBM, What I can tell you is the cliquishness of the American or European black metal culture wouldn't apply in Malaysia or Indonesia as they largely adopt the music (this is pre-internet times I am talking about) without necessarily understanding the nuance of the history or being particularly identitarian. I found these dudes to be pretty open to new experiences.

I don't think you'd conflate the two in person though, they definitely have different fashion senses. You don't see too many guys with green mohawks running around with old European pagan symbols, and you don't see too many guys in corpsepaint with those pagan symbols with big Exploited or Sham 69 patches.

I've always been under the impression that most people who openly like NSBM bands are further down the rabbit hole (so to speak) than typical fans of RAC (Rock Against Communism/oi for the WS crowd). Saying you're 'against communism' is much more acceptable than flat-out identifying as a Nazi.

That was what the singer screamed to the crowd on the album "Doomsday News III". A Nineties CD a friend had, of metal bands singing in German, or in broken English. We would listen to it for laughs, and referred to it as "that Nazi rock album".

But I dont know for sure if thats what the four bands featured on the CD actually were, or not. Nazi. Because we couldnt really understand what they were singing about.

Anyone familiar with the bands Kreator, Tankard, Sabbat, or Coroner (all featured on the album)?

I tried checking out "white pride metal" once, just to see what it was like...I guess I was expecting something evil and hardcore, but what I heard just sounded like Blink 182 in German

Yeah I knew Ice-T fronted a metal band but never listened to them before, Cop Killer and "All lives don't matter" blew my mind. I know metal fans do follow some 90s rap like Wu Tang and Public Enemy but their music isn't metal.

Yeah white pride music is actually pretty crap. Ironically a fake skinhead song created for the Australian skinhead movie "Romper Stomper" starring Russell Crowe is actually pretty good! (I don't know who wrote the song or performed it) The lyrics are funny and the movie is great as all the skins get the crap beaten out of them and die,

On the internet I've noticed a lot of white supremacists have culturally appropriated Scandinavian music as "white music", Traditional Scandinavian songs are actually pretty cool, I do like the war chants. But it amuses me no end seeing self-hating swarthy Mediterranean "white power" types from southern Europe, Mexico and South America (particularly Brasil for some reason?) trying to claim such music as their heritage :lol:
