Within Temptation and Nightwish are awesome. I really want to look up/by CDs of more of their music.

A Dangerous Mind, Angels, and Memories are all I've heard, and I think it's awesome.

I really like End Of All Hope by Nightwish.

Nice topic.

ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN

My favourite band ever. Their music is haunting, mysterious, unlike anything else I have heard before. The lyrics are very poetic and often I recognise myself in them. The artwork of the band is also very mysterious and fits the music perfectly.

Best songs: Ocean Rain, Nocturnal me, I'll fly tonight, Empire State halo, Too young to kneel, Rust, Crocodiles, Villiers terrace, With a hip, All my colours, Porcupine, The cutter, Bring on the dancing horses

PLACEBO

I love Brian Molko's voice, the interesting lyrics and the overall sound of the band.

best songs: Nancy boy, Pure morning, Without you I'm nothing, Burger queen francais, Slave to the wage, Special K, Black-eyed, Allergic, Blue American, Special needs, Plasticine, Song to say goodbye, Leni

THE SMITHS

Fantastic lyrics with a great Aspie feeling, very good vocalist, great guitar riffs, intelligent musicians who tend to draw an intelligent crowd.

Best songs: Hand in glove, There is a light that never goes out, How soon is now, Pretty girls make graves, Rubber ring, Stop me if..., Some girls are better than others, Panic, Sheila take a bow, Bigmouth strikes again, Ask

BAUHAUS

The godfathers of goth, the men who created the whole genre. Haunting music, very good haunting bassline, extremely charismatic vocalist.

Best songs: Bela Lugosi's dead, The passion of lovers, In the flat field, Hollow hills, All we ever wanted, Double dare, Ziggy stardust, Telegram Sam, Dark entries, St Vitus Dance

A PERFECT CIRCLE

I love the ethereal sounds, the guitar riffs, the charisma of frontman Maynard James Keenan, the poetic intelligent lyrics ...

Best songs: Brena, The Hollow, Three Libras, Magdalena, Orestes, Passive

MANIC STREET PREACHERS

Extremely meaningful lyrics that are always interesting to analyse. Highly recommended for people that like music with a strong political and left-wing undertone.

Best songs: The masses against the classes, A design for life, Motorcycle emptiness, La tristesse durera, Tsunami, Door to the river, Everything must go, If you tolerate this..., Faster, Autumn song, 1985, The everlasting

MUSE

Does this really still need an introduction? :) I love the bombastic sound, the guitar riffs, Bellamy's extremely impressing vocal range.

Best songs: Hysteria, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Newborn, Sunburn, Stockholm Syndrome, Starlight, Take a bow, Invincable

SILKE BISCHOFF / 18 SUMMERS

One of the darkest and most haunting of all gothic bands. Especially their first two albums are pure darkness.

Best songs: On the other side, The churchbells and the razorblades, 666 Hellbound (the Devil's within you), Girl of 18 summers, The Union, Waste of time, Phoenix from the flames, Frank

Some others I like:

SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES - best songs: Face to face, Israel, Arabian Knights, Rhapsody, Dear Prudence, Spellbound
MARILYN MANSON - best songs: The reflecting god, Dogma, Dope hat, Irresponsable hate anthem, Cryptorchid, Great big white world, Rock is dead, Coma white, GodEatGod, The nobodies, Para-noir, Tainted love
SOFT CELL - best songs: Tainted love, Bedsitter, Youth, Torch, Entertain me, The night, Together alone, Facility girls

Now I'll definitely check out some of those bands...

Thanks. Glad if I could succesfully spread the words on these bands. You will like them, promised ;)

@ Nairin: a great Nightwish song is "Sleeping Sun". The video is crap though but just close your eyes so you're not distracted, and especially pay attention to Tarja's opera-esque vocals. Nice lyrics as well.

When it comes to Within Temptation (very attractive frontwoman by the way :P ), I always liked "Mother earth" (the song) most but I also like songs such as "In perfect harmony" and "Our farewell". These songs are less known to the big audience but IMO they are better than most singles they released. Good band though.

Holiday is a great song! I like Good Riddance a lot, maybe not a typical Green Day song but lyrically and emotionally one of their best.

Also, Basket Case (about anxiety disorders) sounds like a simple punk chillout but I can tell you the lyrics of the first phase are spot on.

Oh! I like Nickelback's "Far Away" as well. It's the only song by that group I like.

My favorite band is The Goo Goo Dolls. Their music is incredibly beautiful; my favorite songs by them are "Name", "Black Balloon" and "Sympathy". Plus... Their lead singer (Johnny Rzeznik) is very attractive.

What is Black Balloon about? I always tried to analyse the lyrics but somehow have not figured out the true meaning of the song.

Yeah, my friend is a huge black metal freak. I got into most of it because of him. Hes in 2 black metal bands at the moment, one of them is a one-man band.
My favorite blacm metal band is definately Dimmu Borgir, even though people b***h and complain that they are not black emtal, I still have yet to hear a convincing reason why.
"They are gay" is not a good enough reason for me! I dare you to listen to the new Stormblast and tell me thats not pure f*****g black metal. Also, why would Hellhammer play for a non-black metal band in that case? It would be a first for him.
Anyway, I just like their music and the symphonic element, it makes everything sound more epic.
But if you consider Behemoth black metal, then they are no doubt my favorite black metal band.

I found out about a christian black metal band from Norway yesterday. Highly original concept I must say, and to think Hellhammer from Mayhem did drums on their latest album!
