i have always been a big Hieronymous Bosch fan....Henri Magritte...he paintings have always been like friends to me....um....oh....lets see.....i will always shamelessly love Frida Kahlo....i used to dress up as her for halloween every year....theres lots of them...difficult to choose

One painter who I really love but who alot of people ridicule for some reasion is Cy Twombly.
I was about 13 or 14 when I first saw an exhibit of his work and I experienced some sort of epiphony...it stayed with me for a really long time....and I don't know what it is exactly....years later they opened up an entire free permenant museum of his stuff in Houston. I love going there...I love dragging people there...I love the way it smells in there.....but some friends I have brought there have laughed and said that his work was completely ridiculous...

finding examples of his work...this is a piece that is not at the cy twombly museum....most of his pieces are really huge and scribbly

Image

I am not sure whether this one is or is not..no actually I think it IS at the museum..

Image

there is just something about his work that tickles my subconscious I guess....

Mad_Pharmacist:

The Van Gogh painting of the bedroom was featured in my textbook for my French class.

I also like Joan Miro, the sculpture.

If architects count as artists, then I also like Antonio Gaudi (who designed pretty much every landmark in Barcelona, Spain) and I.M. Pei.

Few painters move me so much as Hopper, and this is not his best.

I love Escher, especially his Curl-ups. I remember wanting an articulated toy version of one of these when I was younger. I cried and cried when it was explained to me that nobody makes them.

I also like James Gurneys's Dinotopia paintings. They are so clear and real in appearance, and yet scintillating and dreamlike.

And Jhonen Vasquez's JtHM work, of course. I'm in love with the cover of issue 1. I have the poster on my wall.

"Clamp is an all-female manga team, whose shoujo works have often been made into anime. The group started out as a twelve-piece, but now consists of four members: Ageha Ohkawa (b. 2/5/1967, the main scriptwriter), Mokona Apapa (b. 16/6/1968, the main artist and character designer), Tsubaki Nekoi (b. 21/1/1969, art assistant) and Satsuki Igarashi (b. 8/2/1969, art assistant). The original team also contained Tamayo Akiyama, Leeza Sei, Sei Nanao, Soshi Hishiki, Kazue Nakamori, Shinya Ohmi, O-Kyon and occasional guests. The serials from the early period include 'Derayd' and 'Cluster'. "
