As of this date there is zero evidence of any wrongdoing by Last.fm or its parent company CBS. In addition, the sources for the accusations have not been revealed and have remained anonymous. Until there is evidence of any wrongdoing as far as I'm concerned the accusations are unfounded and slanderous, and the accusers cowards.
Exactly. It stemmed from a blog that seemingly wanted to get increased traffic by saying that Last.fm turned over user info to the RIAA to see if anyone had scrobbled any songs from the new (and then-unreleased) U2 album. Last.fm have constantly denied this, and pointed out that it would be impossible to find out if people who did scrobble songs from the album worked for radio stations, were music critics or worked for U2's record label, especially those who scrobbled the songs "Get On Your Boots" and "Magnificent" which had already been released to radio and online at that time.
And the blog writers who "leaked" the story have threatened those who disagree them.
