To the OP - you guys have some decent rappign talent, but your beats, good as they are; everyone does beats like that nowadays! I kind of mish-mash together beats occasionally, my recording software's f****d so I can't do anything live like I'd like to, but how'd you like something thrown your way that's cut together from beats and samples from other people's stuff? It'd mean you can't make money from it, of course, because you'd get your ass sued. But hey, a beat's a beat.

I respect your opinion, BUT rap aint just music, its a life style, i grew up in the ghetto my whole life and i do agree that alot of rappers just rap about money, girls and drugs... But i rap about what i like dont like, and about my life.... its all about expression, it also happens to be one way i deal with my overwhelming emotions and it keeps me sain... its a usefull outlet for me... I say i want to do something and my s**t will be vented so i wont lose control and actually do it....

All any kind of song of any genra is to me is a poetic expression put down with music....

I don't think you can say any one style of rap is any better than another, but I think gangsta has got a bad reputation ebcause of the generic stuff that keeps ending up in the charts. Bring back the days when two of rap's biggest ever talents were releasing amazing albums - namely Notorious BIG and Tupac.

Don't forget the Mobb ;).

I like certain rappers: Aesop Rock, Dizzee Rascal, The Streets, Beastie Boys, MC Lars and Sage Francis. All of which are considered "alternative rap" and really aren't considered mainstream hip-hop because of airplay on alternative rock stations

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Old school and alt/underground hip-hop.

I'm really into the whole Native Tounges/Zulu Nation jazzy s**t.

But recently artists off Epitaph/Rhymesayers/Strange Famous recs.

Sage Francis, Atmosphere, MF Doom, Blueprint, Eyedea & Abilities, The Coup etc..

Can't stand much else.. Though I have been getting into a bit of grime..strangely. :|

The older funkier rap stuff was ok and rap house but now they turned it into grime which can be shite at times. I prefer garage, especially 4x4.

Dude, download "None Shall Pass" by Aesop Rock. Now tell me if that's trash.

I dislike mainstream hip-hop, but there is some extremely good alternative, underground and nerdcore rappers out there. The only "real" rap album I own is "It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back" by Public Enemy, which is the greatest rap album of all time and one of the best albums of the 80's. That isn't trash either.

I don't see why the totally justified expectation that those who don't like rap wouldn't enter the thread means it's a poorly designed poll.

If you don't like rap, why enter the thread? To trash it unnecessarily? To sit and laugh at the fools who think differently to you?

Hey, if you have a decent reason, I'm all ears.

My preferences are still mostly pre-2000, anything from 1995 till then. Mobb Deep, Method Man, the rest of the Wu, Cypress Hill, Gravediggaz, some of Coremega's stuff as well as Kool G Rap (on the more melodic side still like Tribe Called Quest, De La, etc.). The newer stuff, particularly Little Jon, Soulja Boy, Mims, and stuff like that - its really pivoting off on just being more dance than rap. TI and Young Buck still had some tracks I could feel but not too many others. On another note, all the alternative rap though - can't touch it; I can get into Dr. Octagon and Kool Keith to a real finite point, when you have that or Victor Vaughn (MF Doom)'s stuff advertised on cartoon network of all things it doesn't need further explanation, gives me the geek shivers horridly.

As for Immortal Technique, Cannibal Ox, etc. I like the idea but just can't get the feel of it - it's like something's lacking. Dilated People's, Roots, Talib Kweli, Blackstar, Little Brother, can get into some of that to a degree but its more of a once in a while type of mood.

I mean, i'm an indie rock-loving nerd, but I still think that Outkast's "B.O.B." is the greatest song of the past ten years. Not all rap is trash.
I'm actually sad that in the last year several top 40 rap songs sound like they could basically have been made by the same person for all we know, but innovate rappers like El-P and Aesop Rock can't get airplay outside of alternative rock stations (which is great for alternative rock station listeners like me, but they need to be heard alot more than they are now)
