omg another Modest Mouse fan! woohoo

as you can see I uh.. listen to them quite a lot:
http://www.last.fm/user/clauretano/char ... ype=artist

"Stable Song" - Death Cab For Cutie .. it's one of those "sad, but hopeful" songs.
"Transatlanticism" - Death Cab For Cutie
"The End Complete V - On The Brink" - Coheed and Cambria --it's just sad because it's an end to something epic.. so maybe not right for this discussion.
Of course can't forget about almost anything Dashboard Confessional has ever performed. Seriously, try it.. they're all sad, but many have that hint of hope that makes them feel good.
"Make Everyone Happy / Mechanical Birds" - Modest Mouse
"Bankrupt On Selling" - Modest Mouse

ok I could go on forever.. there's sooo many songs that fit. Plenty of ones in this thread I hadn't heard of, if I ever really want a downer I'll have to take a listen

How could I forget Death Cab?

'What Sarah Said' is very poignant.

Yay! Someone else likes GYBE.

With that track I can picture myself standing by the side of the road with cars whizzing by… revving engines… screeching tires… people shouting and giving the finger. I can imagine people screaming and yelling at me for no reason… and all I can do is stand there… slipping into a daze… with all the harsh sounds fading in and out of my brain. It brings to mind a rude, brash, and uncaring world… but somehow beautiful in its simultaneous absurdity and austerity.

GYBE brings such vivid imagery to my mind.

Roxy Music's "More than This" is beautiful yet makes me feel all "verklempt" or "farklempt"-however one spells it. Can't stand the cover version of it by Norah Jones (I think). The original (sung by Bryan Ferry) is the one I like, that has this effect on me.

Jim Capaldi "That's Love" (minor hit from mid-80's)
Howard Jones "What is Love"
Depeche Mode "Lie to Me"
Trashcan Sinatras "I'm Immortal" & "Earlies"
The Colourfield "Miss Texas 1967" & "Confession"
Talking Heads "Ruby Dear" & "Heaven"

Songs by 2 bands I don't otherwise like the music of:
Kansas "Dust in the Wind"-liked it as kid, though now I understand lyrics & it makes me sad, plus the instruments/melody evoke emotion.
Lynyrd Skynyrd "Tuesday's Gone (with the Wind)"-I just like it.
