I'm a great fan of emotional hardcore and screamo, when it's kept real, obvs. Right now I'm approaching the end of Les Jours Se Suivent Et Ne Se Ressemblent Plus by Gantz, and have a pretty sizeable collection: City of Caterpillar, Rites of Spring, pg. 99, Circle Takes the Square, Tristan Tzara, Gospel, Sunny Day Real Estate, A Day in Black and White, Moss Icon etc.

I'm really not sure what emo is, even in the first wave. Rites of Spring were pretty cool and Fugazi are one of my favourite alternative rock bands. Fugazi are especially impressive to me in that they were making music for about 15 years and hardly made anything I didn't care for.

The thing is, we can try to label sh** all we want, but all this incredible music like Indian Summer, Hoover, Cap'n Jazz, Swing Kids, City of Caterpillar, Circle takes the Square, is so diverse that to try to put them into a box with a three, or six letter word is just dumb. Moral of the story--DIY, listen to the music (and the lyrics because usually their more interesting than just sad, or emotional or whatever), and stop labeling sh**!

You've got great taste in music by the way.
Like Cursive or Jawbreaker at all?

When I saw this thread title Jawbreaker was the first thing that came to mind!

Also Jets to Brazil (same dude from Jawbreaker but a very different band) is a necessity among these groups, probably would fall into the "2nd wave"

I like the older emo stuff, and the newer stuff but not as much as I used to.
What's with all this "real" emo, there is no real/fake, music genres just evolve and change in time. The modern stuff is still "emo" it just doesn't sound like the origional.
