Shoegaze rules!
My Bloody Valentine is great, but I think The Jesus and Mary Chain would be my favorite shoegaze band.
Psychocandy dominates all.

The first ("Only Shallow") and last ("Soon") tracks are key on that album. It's one of the few albums like that.

It's is a grower tho. I wasn't into it the first few times I played it, but then suddenly i started to like it more and more with every listen.

I would also say "To Here Knows When" is a key track of the album. That one is my personal favorite. And yeah the album definitely takes many many listens to fully absorb and understand what they are doing. I didn't quite "get it" at first either. It has so many layers to discover.

Lose my breath by My Bloody Valentine is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever made and I'm a big Spaceman 3/Spiritualized fan but a lot of the other shoegazing bands have always left me cold. I liked Swervedriver but maybe thats because they rocked a bit harder than a lot of the other bands. I've always felt bands like Mogwai and GY!BE better represent what the better original shoegaze bands were all about than groups like Silversun Pickups, who are OK but a bit too lightweight

swervedriver are one of my favourites shoegazing band
they had alot of backgrounds of the My bloody Valentine meets husker du meets dinosaur jr material
there first album 1991 Raise was the shoegazing album at all time
the second album 1993 Mezcal Head was the album That was mixing with grunge and dream pop really in my opinion i wasn't really a shoegaze album
however they are still the best band in the 90's

'just for a day' by slowdive is my fav album ever. a must for any kind of chemical enhancement. their other stuff was great too. and i liked mojave 3, but not as much and they were lots different.
love spirals downwards is another great shoegaze band. does black tape for a blue girl count? i think they should, they're excellent.

*sings along* watch the waves so far away, they're washing 'cross the paths that i have made. leaving all my sins, i turn away. like soaring birds I watch my sorrows play.
don't you know, i've left and gone away. you're knocking on the door i closed today. and everything looks brighter, waves at play just sooth my pain away.

I am a big shoegaze and dreampop fan. I even like the newer american stuff: asobi seksu, Brief Candles and the thrushes.
Though I have to admit, that the field mice, my bloody valentine, ride, slowdive, and swervedriver have a special place in my heart. Dream pop stuff: the sundays, innocence mission, and the ocean blue.

Yes! Loveless is for sure the cornerstone of this little genre, I think my personal favorite though is Catherine Wheel's Ferment. I sort of count Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream as a shoegaze album too because there's an obvious influence
