I agree, hurricaneseye, I only quoted that information to give you some perspective on Ms Plath's imagery and inspiration.

I kinda knew about the chemical and its effects on unborn children, but I had no idea in regards to specific defects. In a note for the poem in The Collected Poems, Hughes said that the connection between the drug and "the crop of deformed babies was well established". I've read about the drug on Wikipedia, and it mentioned that some researchers have found new uses for the drug. It is used (under extremely tight regulations) for a condition called multiple myeloma, along with a condition associated with leprosy.

Are there any other Plath poems that anyone else finds interesting?
