Yeah, once again, I have only been bitching about them for about a week having defended them for half a decade.

And, as previously advised, I have decided to stop giving a sh**. I'm not a big Metallica fan anyway, I mostly listen the 1990s stuff, and even then not often.

And for what it's worth, yes, I've written rather a lot of songs. And selling out isn't anything to do with writing songs about money anyway.

Though some great songs have been written about money!

I didn't say writing songs about money, i said writing songs with nothing but money on your mind.. you cant write a song to get rich.. there has to be emotion there to tap into

...have you heard 90% of pop music for the last fifty years?

For that matter, half of my stuff doesn't have an emotional place to come from, it's just characters.

even pop music, when it was WRITTEN, had to come from an emotion.. you can't seperate the two.. if you create something it has to come from somewhere.. if you do it solely for money or for a hidden agenda then it will not be very good.. as long as there are people who like it then it has to be real.. even the sh***y pop that i dont like had to come from somewhere.. the place that turns it into something that we describe as 'sellout' is in production.. generally, the better the production, the more sellout it sounds.. the more radiofriendly, etc.. or the more outside influence that sticks out in the music.. like Linkoln Park to me sound so boring and it all sounds the same.. crappy.. but maybe they like it

scratch all that.. to sell out you have to put out music that you dont like.. my final definition

But you can write it without emotion! It's ridiculously easy to just string together some cliches and stick it on top of some chords. You never said anything about it benig good.

yeah of course anyone can string a bunch of random riffs together.. but my last statement was if you sell something you DONT like then you're a sellout.. so if you like the random riffs then it's not selling out.. as long as you feel something for it.

Its the same problem you find with all creative media. The best stories songs and art stems from angst and internal strife. When an artist, writer, whatever gets older and has kids a wife and their life gets generally more satisfying and tame they lose that internal torment that made them great.

And they cant get it back because they aren't sure what they lost.

Listened to about half of one of their new songs, think it was "The Day That Never Comes". It bored me. I haven't bothered with this album.

I'm not even that big a fan of Metallica, given my dislike of their albums after Justice.

Their thrash material was solid and The Black Album had some good songs on it (Sad But True I've heard a million times on the radio); everything else after that pretty much sucks balls, including this latest cringeworthy drivel.
