Six Degrees of Inner Turblence Part VI - Solitary Shell by Dream Theatre
He seemed no different from the rest
Just a healthy normal boy
His mama always did her best
And he was daddy's pride and joy

He learned to walk and talk on time
But never cared much to be held
and steadily he would decline
Into his solitary shell

As a boy he was considered somewhat odd
Kept to himself most of the time
He would daydream in and out of his own world
but in every other way he was fine

He's a Monday morning lunatic
Disturbed from time to time
Lost within himself
In his solitary shell

A temporary catatonic
Madman on occasion
When will he break out
Of his solitary shell

He struggled to get through his day
He was helplessly behind
He poured himself onto the page
Writing for hours at a time

As a man he was a danger to himself
Fearful and sad most of the time
He was drifting in and out of sanity
But in every other way he was fine

He's a Monday morning lunatic
Disturbed from time to time
Lost within himself
In his solitary shell

A momentary maniac
With casual delusions
When will he be let out
Of his solitary shell

Interesting selections. I may download these songs and make an AS compilation for myself :wtg:

I hope someone has anthems in other genres as well.

There's gotta be some kinda way out o' here
said the Joker to the Thief
There's too much confusion
And I can't get no release.

You do realise that's by Bob Dylan originally?

Hi John,

Yes, Dylan's original is OK but I was reading about Hendrix and about how closed off he was personally and yet he seemed the opposite on stage. Hendrix has always struck me as a victim of fame/managers/record companies and I could connect with that side of his life. The song seemed to me to be more fitting with Hendrix, closer to the heart.

The Logical Song by Supertramp:

In the night, when all the world's asleep
The questions run so deep
For such a simple man

Won't you please, please tell me what to learn (note: not sure about this line)
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am

My Fear Have Become Phobias by As Blood Runs Black. I'm not sure about the lyrics (they're screamo anyway) but the title, definitely.

Ozzy Osbourne
You’re no different

How many times can you put me down
'Til in your heart you realize,
If you choose to criticize
You choose your enemies

Everything that I say and do
In your eyes is always wrong,
Tell me where do I belong
In a sick society

You're no different to me yeah
You're no different,
No different to me

Look at yourself instead of looking at me
With accusation in your eyes,
Do you want me crucified for my profanity

Concealing your crimes behind a Grandeur of lies
Tell me where do I begin
If you think you're without sin
Be the first to cast the stone

You're no different to me yeah
You're no different, no different to me
You're no different to me yeah
You're no different, no different to me
Can't you see, can't you see
You're no different to me
Won't you see, won't you see
You're no different to me

Living my life in a way that I choose
You say I should apologize,
Is that envy in your eyes
Reflecting jealousy

Tell me the truth and I'll admit to my guilt
If you'll try to understand,
But is that blood that's on your hand from your democracy

Script for a Jester's Tear - Marillion (sort of a b-version of early Genesis)
Smiths you already covered.
Some goth stuff (The Cure - don't know the name of it, but I call the song 'change your mind you're always wrong')
For some reason, Translators' 'Everywhere that I'm not'

Well, I'm having trouble with this one. I really only know what my anthems are. I agree that I am a Rock tends to describe how a lot of us end up. I have periods of being that way, even though I have a family. And The Smiths, The Boy with the Thorn in His Side is one that I like...

How can they look into my eyes and still they don't believe me
How can they hear me say those words, still they don't believe me
And if they don't believe me now, will they ever believe me?

Those lines convey that feeling of wondering why no one else gets it, whatever "it" is at the time.

This one really sums up how I feel when NTs come up and put their hands on me or start a conversation. I don't look at faces much at all and often forget people after they or I move away from each other... I mean sometimes I even completely forget them, even if I actually spent some time with them. And they can't understand it so they keep needling me as if they're sure I must know who they are and I'm just not trying hard enough. This is a video, click the link and click "Bastard."

This one, I think, is the NT song:

http://tmbw.net/wiki/Lyrics:The_Bells_Are_Ringing

But my current personal anthem is this:

Till My Head Falls Off
By: They Might Be Giants

Copyright: 1996

There were eighty-seven Advil in the bottle now there's thirty left
I ate forty-seven so what happened to the other ten?
Why do you suspiciously change the subject and break my concentration
As I dump the bottle out and I count the Advil up again?

Don't interrupt me as I struggle to complete this thought
Have some respect for someone more forgetful than yourself

And I'm not done
And I won't be till my head falls off

Hitting every pocket on my shirt, pants and overcoat
And I'm hitting them again but I don't know where I put my notes
Clearing my throat, and gripping the lectern I smile and face my audience
Clearing his throat and smiling with his hands on the bathroom sink

And when I lean my head against the frosted shower stall
I see stuff through the glass that I don't recognize at all

And I'm not done
And I won't be till my head falls off
Though it may not be a long way off

I'm not done talking yet
I'm not done talking yet

And when I lean my head against the frosted shower stall
I see a broken figure silhouetted on the wall

And I'm not done
And I won't be till my head falls off
Though it may not be a long way off
I won't be done until my head falls off

I also identify with parts of the song Grace Kelly by Mika, but it's largely just silly and repetitive so I won't post it. But the idea of trying to ape others to create the personality you think someone will like or to find security by wearing a tried and tested disguise? Yeah, that occupied a lot of my life.

At my boldest, I felt that the song Princes of the Universe was more apt, though it seems to be about Highlander:

I am immortal, I have inside me blood of kings
I have no rival, no man can be my equal
Take me to the future of you all

I was pretty full of myself that year...

One of my catchphrases lately is "You Gotta Help Me Out".

So, "You Gotta Help Me Out" by the Killers would be one
of my choices, except that the Obama campaign is using
it as one of their anthems:

mm, interesting, being the biggiest macca fan, its interesting to note the line
"i find it very very very hard!" but i doubt macca would have AS.

i've always related to Strawberry Fields Forever.

"no one i think is in my tree, i mean it must be high or low."

"living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see."
