I've never met anyone who doesn't. Hell, as far as I know even Trent think Johnny's is better.

You met one now. I think NIN does it miles better than Johnny Cash, even though Trent indeed disagrees with me. he said that Hurt is now no longer a NIN song but a Johnny Cash song. I personally however think Cash does a decent job but nothing more, it lacks all emotions that the original version has. I dont know why precisely because I usually do like Johnny Cash, but the song just fits NIN so much better, I do prefer the original.

Maybe not in general, but compared to Trent singing it: yes. Those lyrics are one of Trents most honest and open songs he ever wrote, when NIN are performing this song it just sounds so pure and honest, so emotional. Johnny does a good job, certainly not a bad cover, but for some reason I just feel the emotions a lot more when Trent Reznor is singing it.

I have to add, the whole album Viva La Cobra by Cobra Starship. Totally embarrassed to admit that I like them at all, but I just love that album.

*hangs head in shame*

As for the song Hurt.. I can't even listen to it. Well done and all but it's depressing and slow and I can't do it, no matter who's singing it.

I can't stand the Ting Tings. At all. They're awful and dire and everything that's wrong with music today.

But I kinda like Great DJ... once in a while...

I definitely prefer NIN's "Hurt" to the Johnny Cash cover. Johnny Cash's late-era covers of NIN and Depeche Mode don't do anything for me. The Downward Spiral is one of my favourite albums of all time.

I've never heard the NIN version, but how can you not feel anything listening to Johnny's version? The frailty of his once-powerful bass voice just comes across so clearly, as he sings what could be the story of his life: the regrets in his life, the people he hurt along the way to becoming a worldwide, genre-transcending musical superstar (which is why the "king" imagery in the video is so fitting). It's a very moving song.

What about amazing bands that made really awful songs? Like Depeche Mode's "Photographic".. it hurts my brain. Admittedly, they've been around a long time and are allowed a few bad ones, but holy crap it's awful.

Actually, the whole of the self-titled album is excellent. Shame they never made another good album. Or even came remotely close.

The whole song, original version as well in both German and English, is great. But must admit, guilty pleasure!, that I kinda like Tokio Hotel so I would not consider them a crap band.

As for NIN and Cash: Johnny did a good cover of the song for sure, but I just like Trents voice better and then there is also the fact that those lyrics just suit NIN so perfectly that I cannot imagine anyone else could bring it with the same emotion as Trent. Johnny did a great job in his cover, but it still is not as good as the original for me.

I generally don't care for Moby's repetitive techno until of course the Bourne Ultimatum theme "Extreme Ways". At the end of the movie was so superbly done and the lyrics really match the theme. IT FELL APART! YEAH IT FELL APART!
