I've heard that kind of thing before, I always kind of thought of that as just deep tribalish tech-trance. Don't know if your familiar with Dj Hardware but he's got a double cd called Let The Drums Speak; really sick mix, especially disc 2 (kills me they don't have audio for it though):

http://www.amazon.com/Let-Drums-Speak-D ... 290&sr=8-5

I was into trance and techno for a long time (especially the harder side of both), lots of people I like in both genres but overall though it seems like its hard for me to get really pulled into the straight-4 beats unless its reminiscing on the days where I was actually going out of state to see people from the UK, Germany and all that - mostly from 1998 till 2001 or 2002.

I'm not too fond of trance but absolutely adore techno and electrofunk. Anything particularly robotic and inhuman.

I guess electrofunk is not too far off from dubstep, just has a more organised rhythm.

Into Richie Hawtin (Plastikman) or Steve Stoll at all?

More into Patrick DSP's stuff. The stuff he spins is absolute stimming techno.

A few of Plastikman's earlier works are ok, not really into him. Jeff Mills? Juan Atkins? Underground Resistance? Definitely.

Ok, just made a short beginner of a track (something I'd probably have to work on adding a lot more tricks and stunts to but - still lack the experience as of yet).

Mmmm, Venetian's really not my side of the sound. I don't think I'd want to start a specific drum & bass thread just because - it would die in a flash - but still, I can give you a list of some good stuff to check out on Youtube. One warning though - it'll be a monstrous list, let me know if you'd rather I post it here or PM it.

Still getting into dubstep, but I'll recommend the previously mentioned Boxcutter and Burial stuff. Hella good. I also like Vex'd, but thought "Degenerate" was a little underwhelming, considering how much people had hyped it.

As far as Venetian Snares is concerned, his stuff tends to be more breakcore than jungle. He switches things up a lot from album to album, so it can be tough to peg down what's worthwhile and what's not. "Doll Doll Doll"and "printf("shiver in eternal darkness/n");" are two that I like a lot because while they're harsh, nasty, and manic, they're fairly structured and listenable. "Winnipeg is a Frozen s**thole" is similar, but a bit less varied overall. "Rossz Csillag Alatt Született" is my favorite, though - classical music interspersed with fast, splintered breaks. It's actually really beautiful and sad sounding.

I generally recommend Enduser for people who kind of like breakcore, but can't handle the stuff that pounds your brain to mush. Kind of a mix of downtempo, breakcore, and Bollywood samples.

I agree.

I think this thread should be renamed, it's a bit too narrow... any ideas?
