but if you were to be a first-time listener of TtR, would you have thought that ringo's goof was musically bad-sounding? or just different?

Like I said, I never noticed it until Rock Band ;)
But I never really paid any attention to drums until I started playing plastic ones. After that, I would frequently air drum (or pencil drum) along to music.
It's funny how much "drum beat" was in my guitar playing style, though, without even meaning to.

I think a professional drummer hearing it for the first time would notice it, it's very distinct. It doesn't sound intentional, it just sounds bad. If you listen to them play it live, he does the correct drum pattern the whole way through (practice makes perfect!).

Everything in this video says "What are we even doing???", I love it.

Ringo gives up during the "mess up" part and just starts poking around his snare with the sticks. Paul keeps trying to "sing" the wrong parts. George is there (he forgot his 12-string, though!).

A guitar is primarily a stringed instrument, you can also use a guitar as a percussion instrument.
Sam has combined all this with a lyrics about autism.

The first two verses, the drum pattern follows George's 12-string lick.
I don't know how to write drum annotation, and my timing on the correct pattern isn't 100% precise, but it's basically like this:
Code:
1    &   2     &    3    &     4     &
kick     snare kick kick snare       tom
1    &   2     &    3    &     4     &
kick     snare      kick kick  snare tom

Bottom is the verses after the first bridge.

i listened again, and again i didn't hear anything non-musical issuing forth from his drumkit. sure there was a bar or so here and there where he used a fill rhythm at the beginning rather than between bars. but it sounded appropriate.

Some wordplaying with guitars.
The picture is not funny.
The positive is that guitars shoot sounds and no bullets.

Peter Tosh had a real guitar that was kind of like that:

I'm playing my baritone ukulele a lot these days, as I am much in need of the mellow. Good instrument for strumming while almost horizontal in a chair. I use it for only about 12 of my songs, so I'm going to know them all really, really well soon.

I play mainly (prog)rock, blues and pop.
I used to own over 20 guitars and a bunch of amps and effects, but sold off most of them to pay off a debt.
I couldn't get myself to sell these as they are dear to me:

Gibson RD Artist 1977, rare issue with long scale neck (25,5 inch, Fender scale) with Moog expansion board (compressor/expander):

Gibson RD Artist 1979, regular Gibson scale, same Moog board (I learned to play on this one, my first electric guitar):

Awesome, I like those RDs.
I'm glad most of my favourite amps are solid states, only because it means I don't need to buy an attenuator.

I bet that Budda sounds killer for the sorta ground you cover though.

I've got a neck very similar to that one, but it's Made in Korea. It's really, really nice.
I have another one that's from a Squier II Strat, but the finish is super glossy.
IIRC, they both came from guitars that had plywood bodies.

Sweet amp indeed. It's only 18 watts but it'll go crazy loud. For ultimate crunch and scream I dial everything on the amp to 10 and dial down the attenuator. Ideal for maximum tube glow and playing in the living room, even at night.

Some very nice examples did come from Korea, yes.
The Japanese Vintage series were the first Squiers to see the light of day, as the export series of Fender Japan.
A very nice and informative site on JV (and SQ) guitars is 21frets.

Power tube saturation sound so great for some tones. Not so good for really high gain stuff because of how the bass response is impacted.
