I don't know if I've ever posted this before.

^ Cool! What’s it about? I can understand some of the lyrics but not all.

“That boy ain’t right” made me laugh.

The lyrics are literally just here are some filler vocals, just to take up space.

The main goal was to practice using multiple vocal tracks on a song and what voices to use so having worthwhile lyrics wasn't really a concern. I'll re-record more serious lyrics later.

Oh, I see. It sounded really cool.

I often do listen to music people post even if it’s not what I typically listen to. Occasionally, something even makes its way into one of my playlists. I think that’s one of the good things about this forum.

Definitely. It's nice to be exposed to stuff you'd never find on your own.

Tangent, that's also why I can't stand when people insist they like everything, because even the people with the most eclectic tastes have only encountered the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what actually exists. I know there's entire genres I've never listened to and it seems fair to assume there's far more that I'm literally not even aware of, let alone listened to.

Assuming one "likes everything" seems more like they're unintentionally admitting to only being aware of a silver of what actually exists.

Yeah, that irritates me, too. It’s even worse to me when they say: “I like everything except rap and country.”

I’m still learning a lot about classical music and don’t fully understand many of the “isms” I’ve encountered. Sometimes I have to listen to a piece a few times to understand it. I feel even more lost when it comes to some other genres I happen to be familiar with. It’s a good problem to have, though. I like having more things to discover and learn about with music, not that the alternative is an option.

Agreed. That's everything wrong about claiming to like everything, while also coming off like they know the genres they've dismissed well enough to be able to do so.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the country music I've been exposed to and that becomes a negative feedback loop encouraging me to not dig further, but I recognize it's more complicated than simply being able to dismiss the entire genre outright.

I feel like it might not be possible to fully understand any piece of music, only to interpret it and that those interpretations can change over time. That applies to both lyrics and instrumental music, although it's easier to think of examples with lyrics. People will read a desired meaning into something only for the artist to be on record saying the lyrics had no substantial meaning (for example).

Yeah, that’s a good point. I suppose I was thinking that it can take multiple listens to grasp what is going on musically to enable me to interpret it, not that I always interpret a piece the same way even if I’m playing it on the piano.

There’s a few country songs I’m especially fond of, but I’ve not really explored the genre beyond that in recent years although it was very popular with my friends and family when I was growing up. I think that’s some of my problem with country music. Over the past year, though, I’ve discovered a couple songs by Loretta Lynn that I strongly relate to.

Have you ever composed any music?

No, I haven’t. I’m not really that talented when it comes to music, but I do love to play the piano.
