You're never too old, but if you really want to play the music well, you should probably hire a tutor for lessons.

Haydn's awesome. He was one of Beethoven's teachers. Beethoven and Mozart adored him, and his music also influenced Mendelssohn, Schubert and many other important composers. So if you're a fan, you're in good company.

I started as an adult! But yes, you should get a teacher.

I've been trying to find a music theory or basic instrument class, but it seems the summer terms have started. Julliard makes you audition for their continuing education - I find that kind of funny.

Maybe I'll read some music theory books over the summer and then take a class in the fall.

Anyway, here is Philip Glass' first symphony. I could do that on my first try!

THis is what youtube says about it:
Written in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Michelson-Morley experiment on the properties of light, this is the first work for full symphony orchestra to be composed by the immortal Philip Glass.

I can play John Cage's 4'33" perfectly without using sheet music.

That's pretty darned impressive - but I actually meant that I could compose something like that on first composition effort.

Here's another Glass piece (I like this one even better) - I thought he was dead for some reason. Nice surprise that he's not!

Definitely never too old to learn! I've been a piano player since I was 8, but lately I've really been wanting to learn the cello as well. Of all of the instruments in an orchestra or beyond, cello has the sound that I love the most, which is good because I have nerve damage in my right shoulder that would prevent me from holding other string instruments properly. lol (ie. violin/viola)

Uakti! They're the group I posted in the OP of this thread. I only learned about them because somebody recommended Glass to me and when I was searching for him I found them. They are super versatile and amazing. I play one of their drumming songs every night as I'm going to sleep. I don't have this CD though. Very nice.

I'm having a problem getting my classical music on my iPOd, I think those long titles are doing it. Does anybody know how to get around this?
