In terms of vocal reach:

Heather Nova
Anneke van Giersbergen (former vocalist of The Gathering, incredible vocal reach)

In terms of music that appeals to me:

Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil vocalist)
Heather Nova
Sonya Madan (Echobelly vocalist)

In terms of sexyness

Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil)
Saffron (Republica)
above all Amy Lee (Evanescence)

Overall: Heather Nova

The last two albums were not my cup of tea, but the Glow Stars-Oyster-Siren era was brilliant. She opened me up to indie rock. Glow Stars is incredibly atmospheric and dreamy yet also mysterious and dark (Frontier is a perfect example), Oyster continued to build on that atmosphere yet was slightly more accessible. Siren was more mainstream rock but still contained some excellent songs such as Winterblue, Blood of Me, What A Feeling, Paper Cup, Ruby Red.

I also met her after a gig, extremely friendly woman and a very talented artist. Even when her latest work does not appeal to me that much, those three albums I named are still fantastic after all those years.

Must add I should give Fiona Apple a listen, heard and read excellent things about her.

shes a true latinamerican legend.

theres a recording where she performs this song in nicaragua, after the civil war, and throughout the song it sounds like a studio recording, untill the end when this unbelievable roar erupts from the crowds. i couldnt find it on you-tube tho :(

i dunno if i already posted on here but....

Amy Lee - Evanescence. i love her voice, it just has this haunting quality that pulls you in an sticks with you for a long time.
Lacey Mosley - Flyleaf. her voice has the insane ability to switch from total screaming to sweet, soft, lilting tones. her lyrics are beyond amazing as well.
Hayley Williams - Paramore. she has one of the most insane voices i have ever heard. she also manages to keep the songs more upbeat vocally, no matter how the rest of the song sounds...and i love her hair
Idina Menzel - Broadway(played Elphaba in Wicked and Maureen in the movie version of RENT). don't even get me started on Idina. she is freaking awesome! just listen to her performance of Defying Gravity from the Tony's (i forgot what year, just look it up on youtube) or better yet, listen to the entire Wicked soundtrack.

there's a few songs by Kelly Clarkson that i like, but that's about it......

according to my friends there should be another on the list....myself(i don't think i'm that great, but a few of my friends outside of cyberspace say that i should go on american idol...and that i would kick butt.....) if you want an idea of what i sound like on a really good day, check out My Immortal by Evanescence....that's if it's a really really good day

i do not like singing much. to me, the human voice is an inaccurate instrument. no matter how well refined, it always has imperfections like mucus on the vocal chords or other small impediments to a pure and repeatable wave form.
if you slow down any other instrument (except woodwinds), then it still sounds pure, but a voice sounds like a gravelly coarse tone when played at say 1/16th speed.

anyway i must get to the point.
the most tonically pure voice (that also has an interesting timbre) i can think of is linda rondstadt (in her hey day).

i am not partial to emotional singing with plain voices, so i do not like singers like ....err who sung "bobby mcgee"? bonny tyler (i remembered).
i do not like janis joplin and stuff like joan baez (sp?).

i like some female songwriters, and i am much more impressed with an ability to create a song than i am with an ability to perform it.

so in that light i like kate bush and janis ian and joan armatrading (she had an unattractive voice but she wrote excellent material) .
also i like alanis morissette to a degree.

for dynamic vocal control, i also like vanessa amarossi.
she is an australian singer that is not very famous overseas.
i like the song "shine".
since no one may know what that song is because it is australian i will post a clip of the songs lyrics.
she may sound immature, but she achieves her notes effortlessly.

the original name of it was "die" (transpose the word "shine" with "die" in the lyrics), but her managers had to make it a bit rosier for the public's appetite.
