Nearing the end of Finding Everett Ruess by David Roberts. Been reading it on and off all summer. Compelling mystery but easy to walk away from and come back to ...

Cicero: Selected Political Speeches by Marcus Tullius Cicero

This is the first Cicero I've read. He strikes me as the ultimate sleazy lawyer. However, his speeches bring to light Rome at a very human level that one cannot know from reading Livy, Polybius, Dio or Appian...

From the finer points of [ancient] global finance to the social lives of Catiline Pansies, Cicero's texts give us insights into the last days of the world's greatest republic like no other source can.

It says "Between Ambon and Amsterdam". It's basically a biographical novel about one of the first Moluccan medical doctors to work in the Netherlands. It's written quite engagingly, unlike another book I've read on a similar subject.

I should have read that 2 years ago, actually. Better late than never, I say.
