Death's A Rover, by James Elroy.
The third book in Elroy's trilogy, which includes American Tabloid, and The Cold Six Thousand.
Elroy has a minimalistic style of writing, and a labyrinth of plot twists of criminal conspiracies, as well as a plethora of twisted characters.

I've just finished:
'The Center Cannot Hold' by Elyn R. Saks
'Them' by Jon Ronson
I'm struggling to find the next book which is causing me some amount of distress.

Just finished reading "Best Kept Secret" by Jeffrey Archer. Other books I read written by Sir Archer I enjoyed, not this one.

I read on the internet that there was quite a number of people who did not like the book. Since I liked the first two in the series I was convinced that I would like it regardless of what these people are writing about it. Can't believe how delusional I was! 8O  This is the last book in a series of 3 and he ends it with a 'cliffhanger'! !

Let alone he introduces a new character to the story that could have added quite a bit to the story and he completely ignores the opportunity!  :( Adding her did not affect anything in the book. He could have erased her and still have the same plot. That was very disappointing.

Edit: Even though I am sure that I read on the internet that this series would be composed of 3 books someone on the goodreads website mentioned that it's 4. Now that would make sense. :) :D Now I am very anxious to read how he concludes the series.

Recently, I finished reading a quirky little book called "Mr. Penumbra's 24 hour Bookstore". It is about code breaking, fantasy, Google, and it touches on whimsical children's literature. It also contains a lot of hidden references and factual references to things that exist. It's an odd little book but a very good and riveting read.

"The Blondes"-Emily Schultz

Hazel Hayes is a grad student living in New York City. As the novel opens, she learns she is pregnant (from an affair with her married professor) at an apocalyptically bad time: random but deadly attacks on passers-by, all by blonde women, are terrorizing New Yorkers. Soon it becomes clear that the attacks are symptoms of a strange illness that is transforming blondes--whether CEOs, flight attendants, skateboarders or accountants--into rabid killers.

Hazel, vulnerable because of her pregnancy, decides to flee the city--but finds that the epidemic has spread and that the world outside New York is even stranger than she imagined. She sets out on a trip across a paralyzed America to find the one woman--perhaps blonde, perhaps not--who might be able to help her. Emily Schultz's beautifully realized novel is a mix of satire, thriller, and serious literary work.

Best Foot Forward by Joan Bauer.

This is a book that I turn to again and again. It is a book for older children and younger teens, though I am 28 and I read it all the time.

Jenna is trying to make a go of her first job as a shoe salesman. But she has many problems, including her alcoholic father who has been separated from the family.

Jenna is offered the chance of a lifetime: to drive the director of the shoe company across the country. The company is going through some turbulent times, and the director is taking a cross country trip to the stockholders' meeting to meet with various regional managers and rally support.
Not surprisingly, along the way, Jenna experiences a lot of growth herself.

I'm reading a nonfiction book about a haunted house in Chicago.
